10KTF G-Tags are the key to a new avatar collection

Rumors about a 10KTF PFP have swirled for months and were finally confirmed on April 13th. G-Tags, a previously mysterious token earned by recycling Genesis 10KTF assets, will become the avatar. No further details were announced. 10KTF is an intricate ecosystem with a variety of collections and its anyones guess whether other ecosystem tokens will play a role in the PFP mint process.

The PFP collection is the most impactful announcement from the project since it was acquired by Yuga Labs last November. Things appear to be ramping up, though, as they announced a collaboration with PUMA earlier this week. Learn more about the 10KTF ecosystem from this community-created guide.

ALTS by adidas take holders on an evolving journey

adidas entered the NFT space in December 2021 with their Into the Metaverse collection and continued experimenting with the release of Virtual Gear last November. With ALTS, they step into the avatar arena in a creative way. After burning an Into the Metaverse and receiving an ALT, holders are assigned one of eight ALT[er] Egos that are linked to different sports/lifestyle genres including basketball, music and fashion.

While all ALTS receive baseline utility benefits like premium access to the adidas Collect platform, each ALT[er] Ego has specific benefits tailored to their genre. Details are being rolled out over time in “chapters” and any ALTS have not chosen an Ego will be assigned one on May 1. adidas also completed their first token-gated merch drop on the 26th.

Azuki shows strength ahead of Las Vegas event

While the NFT market at large has continued to bleed, Azuki continues to differentiate from the crowd. The floor price briefly reached $35,000 in mid-April while 10 grails have sold for over 160Ξ in the past 30 days. While they opted to skip NFT NYC in favor of their own event in Las Vegas this June, BEANZ made an appearance in Times Square on the 12th as they announced a partnership with LINE FRIENDS, a global IP platform that started as stickers on the LINE messaging app. Things are going quite well in the Garden.

Captainz reach new highs as holders wait for $MEME

More than three months after minting, Memeland’s Captainz sit just below their all-time high floor price - with Potatoz and MVP following. While other projects have lost the attention of their communities, Memeland has maintained continued engagement that’s partially attributable to their lengthy, staged reveal process which is still in progress.

An array of other initiatives are in progress, including Treasure Island, Holders.com, GMGM.com, Stakeland and Petsland, providing the team with plenty of attention-grabbing details to announce. At the center of the ecosystem sits Memecoin, their native token, which is yet to receive a release date. Notable Pepes Series 1 reaches a fitting conclusion

S1 cards from Darkfarms, Batzdu, OSF, Terrell Jones and Jack Butcher

When Vincent Van Dough releases Pepe Checks in early February at the peak of Open Edition season, no one knew what the esoteric Pepe collector had planned. Since then, VVD has ushered in the beginning of the next era of Pepe meme cards. Over two months, the Notable Pepes team curated 50 cards from a diverse array of cryptoartists and raffled them off to Pepe Checks holders each week.

Series 1 saw works from OG Pepe artists like Darkfarms, emerging meme masters like Batdzu, popular artists like OSF and Terrell Jones and even a guest appearance from Arthur Hayes. But given that Notable Pepes began with an homage to his Checks, it only seemed right that it concluded with a card from Jack Butcher. Series 2 kicks off on May 7th; artists can submit works for consideration now.

Opepen evolves from style into symbol (with AI assistance)

Through rambling, radically transparent threads, the NFT community has watched Jack Butcher’s Opepen Edition transformed from a geometric meme into something more. Not content to fill the now-iconic Opepen shape with a singular style, Butcher and co. have designed a collection unlike any before it by using AI.

OpepenAI avatars are divided into 200 drops which each reveal 80 avatars. Each “pack” of 80 will contain 6 artworks with rarities structured on the same semi-perfect pattern that used in Checks - one 1/1 and editions of 4, 5, 10, 20 and 40. This essentially creates 200 subcollections, each with a different theme. Edition sizes were revealed on the 21st and drops are set to begin this week.

Butcher stated he hopes to have many contributors assist in the creation and curation of the 200 packs, including artist collabs and community creations. As usual, stay tuned to Jack’s Twitter for more info as its announced.

The highly anticipated avatar collection from the Backpack team (previewed here in January) minted on the 21st after a one-day delay due to DDOS attacks. The mint took place inside the Backpack wallet and although many experienced some difficulties, the mint went smoothly. Botters were redirected to a honeypot contract and their funds were returned.

A Peaky Blinders-esque look permeates the diverse collection which revealed soon after mint and has seen its female avatars sell for a healthy premium above the floor. The Lads had the most traded volume of any collection on Ethereum or Solana over the weekend and have seen over 830,000 in volume so far.

A potential contender to step up and fill the void left by DeGods and y00ts at the top of the Solana NFT market is exciting on its own. Moonbirds Mythics will begin hatching in June

The expansion collection first announced last summer has an unorthodox distribution design. Moonbirds in Diamond nests have been eligible to claim a Mythics egg since April 17th and so far, 4,095 have done so. Once “The Hearth of the Odd God” comes online in early June, 50 eggs will be randomly selected each day to be revealed. At that time, up to 50 Oddities may be burned in exchange for a Mythic per day.

Elsewhere in the PROOF ecosystem, the Diamond Exhibition kicks off today and features artists including 0xdgb, Beeple and DirtyRobot. They also announced nesting will be phased out and replaced with Talons, a rewards points system similar to those used by Kanpai Pandas and y00ts.

Otherdeeds expand ahead of Legends of Mara

On April 5th, Otherdeed holders were invited to claim their Vessel and decouple their Kodas as Yuga begins revealing details about how each item will be used within the upcoming Legends of Mara game. So far, they’ve explained Vessel nesting and how each Otherdeed’s environmental tiers will dictate worker capacity in their newly launched gaming blog. Prepare your spreadsheets because it seems like things are about to get complicated.

So far, nearly 40,000 Otherdeeds have claimed their Vessel and expanded Otherdeed. Expanded Otherdeeds and Vessels are required to participate in Legends of Mara, which doesn’t yet have a release date. Elsewhere in the Yugaverse, the HV-MTL reveal and subsequent events were delayed one month and are now set to start in May.

Reddit Gen 3 Avatars sell out despite technical difficulties

The third generation of Reddit Collectible Avatars went on sale on April 11th. Gen3 contains hundred of thousands of avatars created by over 100 artists different artists including Nyan Cat creator Chris and Gen1 favorite Rojom. Each avatar had between 5,000 and 125 editions; higher-supply avatars sold for as little as $5 while the lower-supply avatars fetched $200. Traffic on release day brought down the Reddit Shop, but many avatars are still available for purchase today.

Details around total supply, sales and other data are difficult to locate, but according to this Dune Dashboard, Gen3 has seen nearly $3M in total volume while total Colletible Avatar holders eclipsed 8,000,000 earlier this week.

As a disclaimer - I’m no Dune wizard, but I am a bit skeptical of some of the numbers in this dashboard. Unfortunately it was the best I found.

After acquiring RTFKT in December 2021 and launching .SWOOSH last November, it was clear Nike had big plans for digital creations. The Our Force 1 collection is the next step in said plans, as it is set to introduce the +330,000 .SWOOSH members to the glory of virtual assets. The collection is made up of digital AF1’s of past, present and future which will grant holders benefits including access to exclusive physical and digital products or experiences. 106,453 members received poster airdrops last week which give them first access to the mint on May 8th; all other .SWOOSH members can purchase OF1s on May 10th.

SK8PES is pro skater Stevie Williams’ next trick

Stevie Williams has been active in the professional skateboarding world since 1999. He founded DGK with fellow skater Troy Morgan in the early 2000’s and built the company into a notable clothing brand and skate team. Now that he’s spending less time on the board, the original Dirty Ghetto Kid hopes to make his mark on web3 culture with his recently announced project SK8PES. While there aren’t many details yet, Williams says he’s been working on the project for over a year and plans to announced something tomorrow, April 28th.

It’s not looking good bruv. It hasn’t been for a while. The charts below - volume, sales, wallets and Nansen’s NFT-500 index - all tell a similar story. After the Blur stimulus gave the market a fresh injection of liquidity, traders have spent the last few months giving it all back.

Volume, sales and unique wallets all reached multi-month lows over the past few weeks, but the slow and steady decline of the NFT-500 index illustrates our situation best. While the Blur debate rages on and reply guys bemoan the continued incentivization of bidding, it is clear that there are very few market participants willing to purchase and hold expensive NFTs at current prices. Whether that is because the assets are overvalued or because buyers know bidders will dump on their heads is up for debate.

We’re back with another special edition of Page One as our friend Ben Roy, an investor through NeonDAO, SpaceshipDAO & active crypto participant, provides us with our second guest post.

The first time I saw Chromie Squiggles I thought they were a joke. Someone tweeted out a video looking at the sales page for the collection on OpenSea, and they kept saying how stupid the buyers were: who in the hell is out here spending hundreds of dollars buying squiggly lines on the internet?

Pretty quickly as the price for these things went up, I became one of those stupid people & bought a few. FOMO is a hell of a drug.

Fast forward a couple years and my entire digital identity has been built around this blue Chromie Squiggle in the banner image. What happened? How did this collection go from a niche meme to a mainstay in the crypto art movement?

In the rest of this post, I’m excited to riff on these questions, share some personal reflections about my favorite generative art set, and explore what the future might hold for it. A primer about Squiggles for the uninitiated before we dig in:

  • Chromie Squiggles are project #0 on Art Blocks

  • They were created by Snowfro, the founder and CEO of the Art Blocks platform

  • The set size is 10,000 outputs, though several hundred have yet to be minted and are being held back in reserve for future use

  • All Squiggles actually move if you click them!

  • There are different types: normal, slinky, fuzzy, ribbed, bold, pipe (and hyper variants of each) as seen in the graphic below:

After the initial hype in the spring of 2021, it became clear that Chromie Squiggles had staying power and weren’t just a flavor of the month NFT project. I think this is for a mix of reasons.

First, Squiggles are fun. They’re visually memorable. They somehow manage to be both irreverent (who buys squiggly lines?) and endearing (but I want one) at the same time.

Second, they have a great genesis story: they’re among the earliest examples of on-chain generative art, you could mint them for ~$30, and the project didn’t mint out initially.

Third, Squiggles have a large set size. This creates a dynamic that is rare in the NFT space where on the one hand you see network effects because a relatively large number of people are able to own similar work (as with pfp sets like Bored Ape Yacht Club), and on the other hand you have the “nothing else is required” vibe of pure art (so there is no execution risk).

Finally, Squiggles act as a point of connection to Art Blocks as a platform and Snowfro as an artist. Both the brand and the person have been standard bearers for crypto, generative art, creator empowerment, the importance of community, among other things. These are values people want to associate themselves with.

Over the past two years, for all the reasons I’ve mentioned, I think Squiggles have moved from being just a great collection of blockchain-based generative art to becoming one of the grails of the entire NFT category.

Normally, that designation of whether something is a grail or not is disputed since art is so subjective. But Squiggles - along with CryptoPunks, Autoglyphs, and some early work by people like XCOPY - are without a doubt in the upper echelon. How can I say this with such confidence?

In my view, the best evidence for any work’s cultural power is its appearance in tribute work and in remix culture. This applies to music, fashion, sport, and so on as much as it does crypto. And if you stop to think about it, Squiggles are everywhere! They’re on murals, they’re on shoes, they’re in pfp sets. They’re simply one of the most consistent and iconic images across crypto.

The main critique Squiggles have had throughout their life is that they aren’t art: they’re too weird looking, too ugly, too stupid to be art. But in my experience this view is only held by people who are either new to the industry, or by those who don’t fully appreciate the beauty and complexity of blockchain-based generative art.

And to the contrary, Art Blocks as an institution has grown massively in stature over the past couple years in ways that very much suggest this type of work is in fact art. They’ve partnered with premier galleries like Pace. Art Blocks pieces have been sold in elite auction houses like Sotheby’s and collected by top-tier museums like LACMA. And I expect this is just the beginning of a rise in awareness about the art form.

Zooming out, what happens to Squiggles over the next decade and beyond? A couple thoughts in closing…

Some cultural items have gravity. They become a core part of a movement or representative of a time, place, subculture, etc. Think something like Pokemon cards for childhood in the ‘00s or Patagonia vests for Silicon Valley VC culture in the 2010s. 

I think Squiggles are the crypto version of this: they’re a living, moving, rainbow capsule of crypto subculture, and a Schelling point for the digital art movement. 

In my experience, early collectors and tastemakers already see Squiggles in this way, and as new people become aware of blockchains and generative art, I think we’ll see a growing appreciation for this early set in particular, both in terms of recognition and in terms of price. Onward and upward.

DeGods and y00ts complete their respective migrations

Three months after Frank revealed both DeLabs collections would be leaving Solana, DeGods and y00ts have completed their trip to the EVM ecosystem. y00ts made their way to Polygon on March 28th and DeGods to Ethereum on the 31st.

Holders were incentivized to migrate within the first 24 hours: y00ts who did so received 5 USDC, DeGods received gas rebates and they both earned raffle entries for a BTC DeGod. On April 3rd, the Paper Hands Bridge Tax - a 33.3% royalty fee - was applied to DeGods still on Solana. DeGods also announced that Blur is their preferred marketplace.

DeGods traded for around 11Ξ directly after migration and currently sitting around 8.3Ξ with ~3,800Ξ in total volume and 8,240 tokens migrated. y00ts have remained around ~1.9Ξ (give or take) with ~2,400Ξ in total volume and ~12,400 tokens migrated. Welcome to the big leagues, DeLabs.

Doodles opened their Genesis Boxes last week

The mystery boxes that were sold in a forward auction last June can now be opened. Each box contains two wearables and one beta pass, allowing the opener to start creating their own Doodles 2. Read the full Genesis Box documents here. Separately, a vote is being held to restructure the Doodlebank to help facilitate efficiency and decision-making.

The colorful avatar collection is down nearly 50% over the past month despite delivering Dooplicator and Genesis Box utilities recently. Last year, Doodles was a big winner at NFT NYC - as we approach this year’s conference, holders wonder if the team can pull another Pharrell-sized rabbit from their hat.

Kanpai Pandas launch the Panda Points program

The Pandas have introduced one of the largest rewards ecosystems in the NFT space. Each Panda now earns Panda Points, an off-chain rewards currency, passively every day based on their rarity. These points can be used in the Lab (to purchase new traits), in the Casino (to play casino games or bet on sports), or in the upcoming arcade (to compete in mini-games), which is set to launch in April. Holders can manage their points, complete bounties and participate in raffles or events in the PPDEX. The community has loved it so far. Check out the PPDEX here.

Pudgy Penguin Rogs multiply ecosystem benefits

Rogs - a creation of the original Pudgy team - started as the most disappointing present the world has ever seen. On March 25, the current team gave them new life. Rogs now serve as a multiplier for Pudgy licensing deals, on-chain drops and other potential claims. The given example explains that a licensed Pudgy paired with an Epic Rog will earn 3x the licensing royalties. While details are still scarce, we should have a full understanding in Q2 ‘23 when the Pudgys launch Project Overpass.

Yuga releases an onslaught of updates across the board

Yuga projects have been having a moment lately. Headlines have rolled in regarding nearly everything under their umbrella. Hitting them individually would turn this into Page Yuga, so let’s use some bullet points:

  • The Second Trip took place on March 25th and saw over 7,000 players

  • Gucci revealed a physical + digital Koda pendant which releases today

  • A few more details about Legends of Mara, which will take place in May

  • Vessels are now claimable and Kodas can be decoupled

  • HV-MTL types were revealed and “Evo 1” will take place in April

  • 10KTF seemingly hints at how their world relates to The Otherside

Escher launches with Season 0 Exclusives

Andy, Deeze and the team at Tessera launched their new editions marketplace Escher on March 30th. The marketplace features a curated selection of artists, each with their own “Showroom” that displays all of their editions in one place. Escher Exclusives Season 0 launched alongside the marketplace and featured works from Pop Wonder, POSTWOOK and Diewiththemostlikes. Other artists currently featured on the platform include Jack Butcher, Killer Acid and OSF with more to come.

Gemesis is OpenSea Pro’s gift to Gem users

In a surprise announcement Tuesday, Gem was re-introduced as OpenSea Pro. The NFT aggregator was founded by Vasa and acquired by OpenSea in April 2022. OS Pro looks a lot like Gem V2, but introduces a few new features including live mint overviews, bid aggregation and more to come. The announcement mentions that OS Pro users will earn NFT rewards, although it doesn’t provide any details.

As a gesture of appreciation, anyone who used Gem before March 31 can claim a Gemesis NFT for free on OpenSea. According to the FAQ, Gemesis has no utility and is not part of the new NFT rewards program. We do know that each token will have a rarity rank determined by the date of the minter’s first Gem transaction. While Vasa said Gemesis is still in pre-reveal, it’s unclear whether the art will be unique for each token or if the reveal is focused on ranks. Read the full OS Pro announcement here.

Iron Paw Gang continues RCC’s animated artistry

Artists from the Random Character Collective have an incredible talen for bringing generative animation to life in unique ways. Collections including Invisible Friends and Mood Rollers have demonstrated the talents of the RCC collective and Iron Paw Gang is no different. Adam Ape’s universe has more narrative than previous RCC collections - it tells the story of a post-apocalyptic society where animals have harnessed mechs to advance their evolution and battle for a new global order.

Nakamigos dominate conversation in first weeks of trading

Mysterious founders, cheap mint, support from notable collectors, and dozens of derivatives - have we seen this episode before? Many discovered the collection of “Cryptopunks with fun outfits” through mfers founder sartoshi, as collectors of his end of sartoshi pass were allowlisted. While missooors bemoaned influencer manipulation, it sounds quite difficult to manipulate a collection into 7th place in social reach only one week after mint. Bugatti to sell limited-edition Eggs with paired Ordinals

The luxury automobile company announced Tuesday that it is partnering with Asprey to create a collection of limited-edition eggs that will be produced both physically and as Ordinals, with OnChainMonkey creators Metagood facilitating the technical side of things. Reminiscent of Fabergé eggs, the collection will contain 111 pieces with physicals created using various materials and sold at different prices. The generative NFT was designed by Ali Walker and will produce new oval shapes infinitely, but “once a week will revert to the AB egg shape.” Bugatti shared the announcement on their main social media channels and seem to be looking to create a uniquely attractive luxury collectible.

Defaced releases Gotta Get Gurt mystery cards today

Defaced has been creating NFT art in his instantly recognizable style since early 2021 and is set to release his largest collection since Defaced ‘N’ Friends. Gotta Get Gurt is made up of 12 “character cards” and two 1/1 “art cards.” The artist debuted Gurt as a puppet at a Miami pop-up shop and has since released a few more videos. Holders of qualifying Defaced works - full list here - can mint today at 2 PM EST and any remaining cards will be sold to the public tomorrow.

Killacubs set to mint on April 20th

The Killaverse welcomes their smallest members later this month when the Killacub workshop finally opens its doors. Minters will receive a Cubryo which will need to complete eight stages of incubation before becoming a Killacub. KillaTraits can be applied to fully-incubated Killacubs, allowing a multitude of customization options. Each Killabear will be able to claim a Cubryo for free while the top 2,000 Killascore leaders will earn an allowlist spot. While Killabears is a large and inherently a bit complex, the team does a great job of explaining how things work - check out the Killacubs site for more info.

Cryptopunks are farmed to the top of volume charts

Two weeks ago, Wrapped Cryptopunks became tradable on Blur. This week, the collection saw over 85,000Ξ in volume as farmers bid the collection above 70Ξ floor - before dumping it back to ~60Ξ. Professional money burner Machi Big Brother accumulated well over 100 as he and other farmers were drawn towards Punks’ high floor and zero royalty fee. Blur’s (situationally) deep liquidity was demonstrated again when someone dumped 80 Punks into bids and sent the floor down 9Ξ. At this point, it’s clear than any pump created by bids is at risk of being dumped just as quickly. As usual, hat-tip to NFTstatistics.eth who follows these moves in real time.

DEADROP opens the Tower for pre-alpha access

Led by streamer extraordinaire Dr. Disrespect, the team at Midnight Society unveiled their plans for an extraction shooter (a la Escape from Tarkov) powered by blockchain tech last year. The game entered pre-alpha last week and welcomed gamers with a variety of streams and tournaments. Holders of their Founder’s Pass collection are can play for free, while others can purchase a Tower Key for $25 to access the pre-alpha, among other benefits. There’s a lot going on - read more about the game here.

DEADROP aims to give players true control over their in-game assets - the guns, cosmetics and miscellaneous items extracted by players will eventually take the form of tradable NFTs on Polygon. With 4.3M YouTube subscribers, a decade of experience, and the respect of the industry on his side, Dr. Disrespect hopes to show normal gamers the benefits of the blockchain.

Metadrop has a new look and a new strategy

Those who have been here for a while remember Metadrop, the forward-auction platform that hosted mints for Anata, Wassies and Webaverse, among others. Yesterday the NFT drop site announced its next chapter: more mints, increased discoverability and, notably, a rewards program. Minters will earn Drop Rewards points for participating in a release, with bonuses available for minting 3 or more projects or finishing on the leaderboard. Exactly what these Drop Rewards points do is still unknown, but it’s an idea with potential. A platform that rewards minters while facilitating project releases on the creator side certainly has a place in the market - if done well.

TreasureDAO receives joint-largest Arbitrum airdrop

Early supporters of Arbitrum were rewarded today as the Layer 2 chain airdrops its native token to users and organizations alike. Few organizations were earlier than Treasure, the gaming ecosystem founded by John Patten and friends in September 2021. Arbitrum is distributing a portion of its governance tokens to DAOs on the chain with hopes that they can re-distribute it to their communities.

TreasureDAO is set to receive 8,000,000 Arbitrum tokens, holding the joint-top spot alongside GMX. A variety of factors, including TVL, activity, and transaction volume, were used to determine how much each DAO received. While it’s not yet known how each DAO will re-distribute these tokens, you can likely expect some gameification from the Treasure crew - it’s what they do best.

Twelvefold sees lackluster volume on secondary markets

The first secondary sales for Yuga’s 300 piece art collection came last week on the 16th after the Ordinals were distributed to auction buyers. Since then, there have been only 15 sales (according to Ordinals.Market - there may have been more on other, segmented markets) for a total of ~460Ξ - many of which were below the lowest price paid at auction. The floor currently sits at 32Ξ or ~2 BTC. While its anyone’s guess how these perform over the long run, Twelvefold continues to look like one of Yuga’s most questionable endeavors to date.

DeGods’ Bitcoin resurrection went quite well

535 DeGods were lost to the Paperhand Bitch Tax back in the day, but have now been resurrected on Bitcoin. They were released in a first-come first-serve sale on the 17th and sold out quickly despite the 0.333 BTC price tag. They partnered with Bitcoin Bandits to facilitate OTC trading in their Discord, although Magic Eden’s Ordinals marketplace offers a comfortable alternative. All 535 inscriptions were made in the same Bitcoin block, something that had not been done before. Since release, there have been 112 OTC sales for a total volume of 103 BTC and 10 sales on Magic Eden for ~11 BTC of volume.

Fellowship Patron Pass provides Post Photography benefits

As discussed here a few weeks ago, Fellowship held their Patron Pass auction on the 16th in a Dutch auction that sold out around 0.2Ξ. The Patron Pass grants holders early access to three Group Shows over the next 12 months, the first of which features Life in West America artist Roope Rainisto on April 6th and 7th, as well as other benefits. Designed in a minimalistic fashion, each Patron Pass evolves as it is traded and used - one dot is added for each trade and one square is added for each mint pass use. The collection saw sales above 1Ξ after sell out.

HV-MTLs were summoned from Sewer Passes

Yuga opened The Summoning on March 15th, welcoming Sewer Pass holders to redeem theirs for an HV-MTL power source of corresponding rarity. There are 7 different types of HVs (8 counting the Legendary 1/1), Glitch being the most common and Holo (24Ξ floor) the rarest. There’s no rush to mint your HV-MTL, as the claim will be open indefinitely. ~4,300 Sewer Passes that were unclaimed or ineligible were minted by Yuga and will be held until the next mini-game. Each HV will presumably reveal a Mech sometime in late March, so look out for more details as the arrive.

Sotheby’s hosts first Digitally Native auctions

The storied auction house is currently hosting its inaugural digital art and NFT auction. The online auction, titled Oddly Satisfying, features a 58 pieces by a variety of well known cryptoartists like Bryan Brinkman, MarkTheHabibi and RAC. Each artist was tasked with exploring the theme of “oddly satisfying video,” and each piece falls within one of four themed groupings - the Masters of Loops, the Hyperrealist Renderers, the Physics Simulators, or the Hybrid Animators. It’s encouraging to see Sotheby’s continue curating digital art, as the auction house provides connection to the traditional art world.

DenDekaDen details upcoming Spirit Key avatars

In a three-part announcement, Toei Animation’s DenDekaDen summarized the project so far, detailed the Spirit Key avatars, and discussed their vision for the future. The 7,777 Spirit Keys unlock their Avatar Platform. Each avatar has fixed traits, customizable traits, and equipable traits. Customizable traits allow holders to change the features of their avatar at any time, including the eyes, nose, hair, mouth and gender, offering a level of personalization not usually seen in avatar projects while maintaining rarities through fixed traits like accessories. The Spirit Key mint will begin on April 2 when Keys are airdropped to Genesis Omikuji holders based on their fortune - check the full mint schedule here.

EVE Online developers CCP Games embrace the blockchain

On Tuesday, CCP Games announced the completion of a $40M funding round led by a16z for an “innovative new AAA game” that will be utilizing blockchain technology. The creators of spacefaring MMO EVE Online have plenty of experience creating sprawling virtual universes with complex economies and mechanics, as EVE has been up and running since 2003. In an interview with VentureBeat, CCP Games CEO Hilmar Veigar Péturrson discussed how he and his teams have watched blockchain games and assets grow since CryptoKitties. While the new project is set in the EVE universe, it will be separate from their existing titles. Not much else is known, but it’s true, what they say - the real game developers are coming.

Reddit Gen 3 Avatars are coming soon(ish)

Launched in Summer 2021, Reddit’s collectible avatars program has been a huge success. Over 6M wallets have been created by Reddit users and some avatars fetched hefty prices during the boom last September (which we discussed here). While an official announcement about the third generation of Avatars has not yet been made, word has gotten out that it will be released rather soon. Various artists have confirmed their participation in the collection, including some who previously made avatars in Gen 1 or 2. Keep an eye on the r/CollectibleAvatars subreddit for more details as they are announced.

Blue Chip spots up for grabs as stalwarts continue to bleed

6-month returns for various avatar collections, via Parsec

Clone X, Doodles and Moonbirds were three collections many felt more than comfortable betting on a year ago. Despite their recognizability and resources, all three saw months-long sell-offs continue over the weekend. In the past six months, all three are down over 30% despite announcing various new developments.

These projects, all from blockbuster organizations, feel like they were anointed Blue Chips practically from the start. In contrast, a variety of avatar projects have spent months upon months in the mud, building communities with a more organic feeling. These tokens did not instantly grant their holders clout, but over time they have earned it. Don’t have to take my word for it - the chart above illustrates it well enough.

While there are many other factors to acknowledge in this discussion, we’ve learned that no project is too big to bleed or too small to turn its fortunes around.

Opepfps are developing while Jack features derivatives

In his typically mysterious manner, Jack Butcher has continued to drop a variety of potential teasers for the Opepfp he first mentioned nearly a month ago. Each successive teaser causes a slight pop in price and volume as Butcher fans await the next metadata change. Elsewhere in the Butcherverse, fine-tuning continues on the Checks website, which now features timelines for each token. Jack plans to use the Checks metadata to showcase derivative artists and airdropped what some might call a TwelveFold derivative to One Check holders on the 13th.

The Otherside takes a Second Trip on March 25

Voyagers are heading back for a Second Trip later this month. The grand-scale tech demo will include more playable regions than the First Trip and allows holders to invite a friend to accompany them. This time, players will participate in an “interactive gaming experience” led by “Otherside Team Captains,” all of which will be detailed at a later date. After the Second Trip, Othersiders can turn their attention to the upcoming Legends of Mara “2D experience.”

TwelveFold is inscribed, revealing polarizing art

Yuga’s off-the-cuff art collection, which fetched a total of ~$16.5M in it’s widely criticized auction last week, was inscribed on Monday. The 300 pieces are divided into 25 different series of 12, each with a distinctive style and palette. The collection drew the typical mix of opinions, with some questioning how much the art matters anyway. Inscriptions were distributed late last night and have yet to be traded, but expect to see some sales - whether on Bitcoin-based marketplaces or Emblem Vault wrappers - pretty soon.

The result is an unexpectedly diverse collection that mixes Monster motifs with Moonbird’s pixel style. Dimensionals embrace the Free-to-Own strategy

Outspoken founder who loves Twitter giveaways, established and well-funded team of mobile game developers, absolutely no info about the game - it’s the Free-to-Own strategy at work. Dimensionals from Mino Games is the latest gaming project to fly the F2O banner. Their debut collection, Genesis Dimensional Stones, will presumably act as the “factory NFT” in their ecosystem. While details about the stone’s utility - and the game’s content - remain illusive, they’ve already begun preparing for the second collection, a hero known as EVE. Look out for more details on their socials.

Gitcoin Presents turns into a Machi farming frenzy

Sales for Gitcoin Presents over the past week, via Parsec

The patrons of open-source software at Gitcoin partnered with Metalabel to release an open edition entitled The Quadratic Funding Collection with all proceeds used to fund public goods. The QFC contains five “records” including Vitalik Buterin and co.’s 2018 paper Liberal Radicalism and was open for seven days.

While the Ethereum founder did not publish the collection, he did sign off on being included. His name fueled enough FOMO to send the collection as high as 0.7Ξ, handing minters a 14x in just a few hours.

When the FOMO fuel ran out, an entirely separate spectacle began. Farmer extraordinaire Machi Big Brother began accumulating tokens in unprecedented size - at one point holding more than 1/3 of the supply and participating in 3/4 of all QFC trades. Over the past month, farm lord Machi has realized more than 3,500Ξ in losses (shoutout to NFTstatistics for the ever-great data).

Seizon adds a twist with dynamic rarities

While projects like Memeland’s Potatoz and Captainz have employed lengthy, staged reveals in the past, Seizon adds some interesting twists. After starting as clouds, each token turned into a droplet on the 13th, revealing its rarity. On the 17th, each token will gain a species. Whether or not a token was transferred after its rarity reveal will influence which species it becomes - for full details, consult this graphic and this Medium article. Founded by Minty, HD and artist Godchi7d, Seizon announced a partnership with Canada-based multimedia company MOONBASE on the 9th. Reveal is set to start on the 21st.

Starbucks releases first limited NFT, The Siren Collection

After announcing the Odyssey loyalty program late last year and releasing a number of editions, Starbucks released their first limited-supply collection last week. The Siren Collection features 2,000 unique pieces comprised of their signature mermaid in different colors and backgrounds. Odyssey members could purchase two for $100, but many complained about technical difficulties on the NiftyGateway minting site. Other stamps, like the Holiday Cheer stamp, could be obtained simply by completing tasks like Starbucks trivia games or purchasing a gift card.

Franky’s Dinner crafts classic cartoon frogs

The collection of artfully illustrated frogs will follow the story of Franky as he eludes a “mysterious restauranteur looking to add a new item to his menu." Each token is animated by founder and artist Fordenad in the “rubber hose” style popularized by 1930’s American cartoons. Community members could win allowlist spots by playing a platforming mini-game on Franky’s website. The allowlist mint begins today at 9AM EST with a reserved phase before moving to FCFS at 2PM EST.

Maplestory announces their NFT entrance

Few legacy companies have come into the NFT space displaying the vision and understanding that Maplestory displayed in their initial announcement materials last week. The 20-year old game, which still has about 160,000 active users according to their Medium announcement, is searching for reincarnation on the blockchain.

A 20-minute long reveal video makes their ambitions clear: create a digital universe that allows interoperability between Nexon IP as well as the introduction of outside IPs, including those from established NFT collections. While others have opted to create walled gardens or small experiments, Maplestory has committed to fostering a (rather) open digital universe that seems to share the values of the space at large.

Sewer Passes grant entry to The Summoning today

Unfortunately this is coming out before The Summoning, which takes place at some point (?) today, so there’s not much new info at the moment. We recapped the Sewer Pass journey so far last week, so there’s not much need to do it again. One thing of note: only passes with a “Ranked” trait of “Yes” will be eligible to participate. Whatever Power Sources Yuga have up their sleeves are sure to be entertaining - we’ll talk the full details next week.

Taproot Wizards start Making Bitcoin Magical Again

Almost two months after bursting onto the scene with the largest Bitcoin block ever mined, the Taproot Wizards have started cultivating their allowlist. Prospective Wizards will have to earn their spot by completing Quests at Wizard School. The first two quests, which were available over the weekend, required prospects to complete a Lightning transaction and add a 🧙‍♂️ to their Twitter name - simple requests.

The third quest is a bit more time-intensive, requiring prospects to record a video of themselves showering in a wizard costume. Quest 3 closes on the 24th. While Quest 4 is listed as “coming soon,” we don’t yet know how many quests there will be or when the Wizards will finally be distributed - watch their socials for more info.

NFT Market Overview:

A strange week in the wider economy and crypto-sphere made for a strange week of NFTs. Volume fell off on the 9th just as the SVB and USDC mess began to surface. While this provides a clear explanation for the lack of sales and wallets over the weekend, Saturday saw the lowest number of unique NFT buyers since November 12, 2021 - just 11,348.

Since the Blur airdrop, it’s become much harder to gleam trends from volume and sales data. Farmers dominate both metrics, as shown by how quickly Gitcoin Presents reached the same number of lifetime trades as BAYC. Whether or not the volume and sales candles will look nice next week seems to depend mostly on how much money Machi wants to lose.

Claire Silver’s new collection will premiere at the Louvre

When Claire Silver began “collaborating with AI” to create art over three years ago, no one was predicting the astounding advancements to come. But those advancements have certainly helped the pioneering computer-collaborator land in the Louvre. The artist announced the French premiere alongside news that she has signed with WME. The 100-piece collection titled can i tell you a secret is an autobiographical series of 100 post-photography pieces that will premiere in the Louvre on March 21st. Silver’s most notable early work, Genesis, was the debut collection from AI art platform BrainDrops, while she more recently produced the 1/1 Pieces using DALL-E 2.

Doodles add more mysteries with the DoodleMap

After acknowledging their often-memed infrequent communications, Doodles provided some breadcrumbs in the form of an old fashioned map. In practicality, it doesn’t tell us much new information - most are previously announced initiatives that haven’t seen a status update in a while, but Planets, Doodle Records and The Stoodio are relatively unknown. The most tangible information was in the pre-announcement: all Genesis Boxes will contain rare items. Genesis Boxes were previously set to open in February, so there will likely be more info on them soon.

KillaBears introduce more rewards with KillaScores

After joining in on the burn meta with an open edition in February, the KillaBears have created a system to continue rewarding their loyal community members. Holders can earn KillaScore points every day by holding copies of the Killa Chronicals, with higher editions earning more points. The top 2,000 KillaScores will earn allowlist spots for KillaCubs, the long-awaited companion collection which releases on April 1.

PROOF scraps plans for Highrise and token amid refocusing

On March 2nd, founders Kevin Rose and Justin Mezzell discussed PROOF’s future more candidly than ever. Nearly a year after mint, the organization has put plans for it’s token on the shelf where Project Highrise, the virtual gallery space teased at launch, also sits. While the projects aren’t cancelled, they’re not happening soon. Nesting will also conclude with the Diamond Nest; those who earn one will get to participate in the Diamond Exhibition art drop. When PROOF Collective passes expire in 2025, holders will transition to “Moonbirds Elders” to signify their role.

But leaving some of their signature projects on the cutting room floor does give PROOF and Moonbirds a simpler identity. PROOF will focus on art and art alone - Grails remain, as does the PROOF podcast and other content. Sometimes one must move backwards before moving forwards again - this is one of those times.

Unordinals lead the Ethereum → Bitcoin trend

Minted and inscribed in mid-February, these pixelated skeletons were amongst the first Ordinals project to issue and Ethereum token redeemable for a Bitcoin Inscription. In this second swing of Ordinals excitement, Unordinals have emerged as one of the favored avatar collections. So far, 300 Ethereum tokens have been exchanged for the corresponding Inscriptions. The ETH → BTC Ordinals strategy has become a rather popular one, and while Unordinals may not have been the first to do it, they were certainly there a few weeks before most.

MegaPunks mint on Ethereum before burning for Ordinals

Megapont began building their universe on Stacks, a Bitcoin side-chain, in late 2021 with the Megapont Ape Club. Since then, they’ve steadily built the Megapont universe. MegaPunks, their first collection since the Ordinals protocol was introduced in January, will join that universe. Minted on Ethereum as a “Proof of Purchase” token, MegaPunk transfers were frozen on the 5th as holders await the transition to Bitcoin on the 8th. The “POPs” will be exchanged for corresponding Ordinals, which can either be sent directly to a Bitcoin address or wrapped in the Emblem Vault for further trading on Ethereum.

Mocaverse is Animoca Brands’ new flagship collection

Described as the membership collection for Animoca’s “extraordinary family,” - which includes OpenSea, Dapper Labs and over 380 other investments - Mocaverse is the gaming giant’s new flagship community. The Mocas, which are divided into five tribes, have utility to “learn, build, play, and do good.” Some benefits mentioned include masterclasses with industry experts, tools and resources for builders, and exclusive game passes, with more to be introduced in the future.

Momoguro embarks on a storytelling-focused quest

The debut collection from the impressively credentialed baobab studios (previewed here last week) ran as high as 1Ξ on mint day and has seen over 8,500Ξ in volume since. Each character, called Holoselves, will also receive a box of cards which will be used to play their “Storytelling RPG.” A short sneak peek of the game’s beta was shared on Monday, giving holders a better idea of what they have to look forward to, but not when. Holoselfs have a diverse set of stats that can be improved through gameplay. Hopefully more info on the game’s timeline is shared soon.

Owls kickstart an ASCII-powered mini-meta

On Friday evening, a free collection of keyboard-generated Owls minted out. Without as much as a word on their website, Owls captured the space’s momentary attention. By Sunday, they had reached 0.4Ξ and spawned a dozen ASCII copycats. By Monday, the project published an article discussing their plans, which now include strengthening their brand identity, rewarding holders via “time capsule” lock-ups, and eventually customizable upgrades for Owls. Always refreshing to see a free stealth mint find success.

TwelveFold auction ends with 7.1 BTC top bid

The 300-piece art collection from Yuga Labs was announced on February 27th and was sold in a 24-hour auction that concluded on Monday. Unsuccessful bids will be returned to bidders manually, a design which has drawn criticism for setting poor precedent. Yuga CCO Figge created the artworks and provided some thoughts on the collection here. The top bid was 7.1 BTC, while the 288th (12 reserved) and final winning bid was 2.25 BTC. Bidders receive the corresponding number in the set - the top bidder receives TwelveFold 1/300, etc. - and should receive their inscriptions within a week, while unsuccessful bids will be returned within 24 hours.

Fellowship to auction passes to the future of photography

The stewards of photographic art at Fellowship are set to partner with Life in West America creator Roope Rainisto for collection entitled Post Photographic Perspectives. Ahead of its release, Fellowship is auction 1,000 Patron Passes, an annual membership that grants holders early access to new collections, exclusive access to a catalog of curated photographs and other, to-be-announced rewards. The design for the Patron Pass was created by Steve Pikelny and evolves each time it is transferred. Passes will be sold in a rebate Dutch auction starting at 5Ξ.

The Summoning delayed until March 15th

The Summoning was delayed a week to March 15th as Yuga takes some time to ensure things run smoothly. There’s not a whole lot of new developments to cover here, so a recap:

Sewer Passes are set to summon a Power Source with rarities determined by their Dookey Dash score. Mech types will be revealed in late March, leaving room for Yuga to do something in between (or not). “Evo 1” reveals in early April, according to their site - this is where we start to wander into the unknown, as there are no details around “Evo 1.” But we can rest assured that Yuga has a few months of activities planned out for the Apes and their Mechs.

Symbiogenesis sees Square Enix come to Polygon

While the project was announced in late 2022, the details surrounding Square Enix’s first blockchain project, Symbiogenesis, have only started to surface. In mid-February, the team announced Symbiogenesis would be coming to Polygon in an interview with VentureBeat. The project will put holders through a turn-based adventure with their token art changing as they progress. While there are few details available, their teaser site and Discord server go live in two days. With a freshly-appointed President set to take control soon, Square Enix may have high ambitions for the blockchain gaming space.

NFT Market Overview:

Given that Ordinals are back in flavor this week, we’re gonna look at Ordinals today. While Blur and OpenSea dominate the marketplace war headlines, a more nascent battle is playing out on Bitcoin. Ordinals marketplaces are attempting to claim their share of the market in a new space with no established players, making it a particularly interesting contest to observe. The chart below shows volume across four Ordinals marketplaces.

Some marketplaces, like Ordinals Market, trade Inscriptions on Ethereum through the Emblem Vault (read more on vaults here), while others, like Ordinals Wallet, are Bitcoin-native marketplaces. Bitcoin-native marketplaces have dominated transaction share, as shown in the chart below.

But Bitcoin NFTs traded on Ethereum make up a significant portion of volume (that large bar on the 28th is mostly attributable to Bitcoin Punk sales). As I alluded to above with MegaPunks and Unordinals, many projects have opted to mint on Ethereum first before allowing holders to claim their Inscription.

Moving Ethereum users to Bitcoin is much harder than bringing the Bitcoin NFTs to Ethereum, evidently. Given the nascent infrastructure around Orbitals - see: Yuga returning bids manually - it’d be understandable if a large portion of Bitcoin NFT volume remains on Ethereum for the time being.

KPR issues passports to New Eden

In their largest update since release, KPR introduced Citizenship Profiles earlier this week. Collectors can earn different badges, marks and points for holding KPRs with particular traits or completing certain activities. Accumulating accolades will “unlock access to a variety of experiences and rewards,” which are yet to be revealed. Some limited-time badges are already available. While some have been frustrated with the project’s pace, there is unquestionable quality in their UI/UX design, which rivals the best in the space.

LinksDAO votes to buy a Scottish golf course

Mike Dudas and Jim Daily founded LinksDAO with a comically absurd goal: buying a golf course. 13 months later, their dream is well within reach. A proposal to submit a bid for the Spey Bay Golf Club in Scotland passed this week with 89% approval. The 100-year old links course features 12 waterfront holes and a “guide price” of ~$900,000. According to the proposal, the group was previously focused on courses in the United States but found the Spey Bay listing to be too great of an opportunity to pass up. Their offer must be accepted and various due diligence processes would follow, but it’s an huge step for an organization that many wrote off as dreamers.

Opepen Edition rises as Jack Butcher shifts focus

The tweet above set off buying frenzies on Sunday night. Given that Checks have reached their finished state - migration and burning are live and immutable - the Value Visualizer has some time to think about what, if anything, to do with the ~16,000 free frog pictures inspired by Batdzu’s Geometric Pepes. Metadata changes left the square frog behind and spurred more buying - the collection has seen 22,000Ξ in traded volume over the past week, although a huge portion of that is Blur farming. He’s not yet revealed his plans, but has made a few hints - whatever comes next will be “completely different.”

Sewer Pass scores validated as Toad Mode starts

When Dookey Dash scores were verified and released last Friday, 18 year old pro gamer Mongraal found himself with the top prize - which he promptly listed for ~$3.5M. UPDAO, a DAO governing Pixel Vault’s inhabitants, has bid 690Ξ for the key.

The Sewers have reopened to welcome players to Toad Mode, an alternate game mode that gives with an N/A score a second chance to earn their participation in The Summoning. These passes will receive unranked Power Sources, which will have lower rarities than the bottom scores for the first Sewers run. Toad Mode ends March 1st and any Sewer Passes that still have an N/A score will become valueless. The Summoning will take place on March 8th.

0N1 Force acquired by former Binance and YGG execs

The Block reported Wednesday that a group of investors including former executives from Binance and Yield Guild Games led a community buyout of the project for an undisclosed amount. The collection has been a known acquisition target for some months - Non-Fungible Films publicly disclosed their offer back in October and evidently had competition. The new leadership group has their work set out for them, but “intends to deploy significant funds” towards growing the IP.

byteGANs are the latest creation from Van Arman’s robots

For more than 15 years, Pindar Van Arman has forced robots to think creatively. The artist and roboticist has employed a multitude of hardware and software in his work, which often highlights the differences between human and computational creativity. His latest collection, byteGANs, explores the same theme while building upon ideas introduced in previous works, such as bitGANs. His inclinations towards technology make him a seemingly natural digital artist, but he developed a reputation in art circles well before venturing into NFTs. This thread from Mooncat2878 provides some more background on the collection.

Castaways give Islands to everyone

When the island survival game airdropped their Islands II collection to Raft holders and giveaway winners earlier this week, they also released free (non-NFT) islands. The public islands are available for the cost of one compass and dramatically level the field for smaller players, allowing anyone to start building and farming their own resources (although they have fewer resources than the NFT Islands). Over 12,000 free islands have been claimed so far.

Other recent updates include island levels, a leaderboard-based prize system and in-game challenges, while tradable character skins and in-game resource markets are on the way. The team is delivering constant updates to a game that people actually have fun playing - a seemingly unheard of feat in blockchain gaming.

Coinbase commemorate Base launch with free NFT

On the 23rd, Coinbase revealed Base, an Ethereum L2 built on the OP Stack. Base, which will not have a token of its own, is live in testnet now. Coinbase hopes the new L2 will provide new and existing users with a trusted place to begin their on-chain journey, with hopes it can help “onboard 1B+ users into the cryptoeconomy.” To commemorate the launch, they released an NFT on Zora that is mintable for free until Sunday. Over 65,000 have been minted so far and despite having no stated purpose, low token IDs have sold for as much as 2.5Ξ.

Ghost Boy comes to life 8 years after creation

It’s hard not to compare Ghost Boy’s origin to founder Evan Luza’s first project, Cool Cats. Just like Clon and his Blue Cat, Luza has been doodling variations of Ghost Boy for years. A product and brand designer by trade, Luza also co-founded Alpha Labs, a product-focused Web3 venture studio. Devoid of a roadmap or Discord, Ghost Boy minted over the past weekend and climbed to 0.5Ξ before declining after reveal on Saturday. The collection saw over 5,000Ξ in volume (whatever that means nowadays).

Modern Muse makes generative Marilyn Monroes

We’ve seen plenty of celebrity estates collaborate digital artists, but Modern Muse is doing something a bit different. Their collection, which was cut from 3,333 tokens to 1,000 a few hours after the mint began, combines photos of Marilyn Monroe with on-chain generative art. Zeblocks - an artistic duo made up of Arsonic (of Sergeant Pepe fame) and Sebiastian - previously created generative art projects including the Art Blocks Curated collection Unigrids and the independently published Sensthesia. The reveal date has not yet been announced.

Metropolis by mpkoz will finish minting via world tour

The first collaboration between Art Blocks and Bright Moments, a digital art platform known for IRL minting experiences, sees Chimera artist Michael Kozlowski task minters with a trip across the globe. Each of the 500 pieces minted in Wednesday’s Dutch auction are half of a diptych that pays homage to one of five cities - New York, Berlin, London, Mexico City, or Los Angeles. The other half of each piece will be minted at exhibits in the corresponding city - pieces with the New York trait must be minted in New York, etc. These exhibits take place in early March and those who can’t attend can delegate minting to an attendee. A host of Emmy awards in VR animation and a team with a diverse set of experience make baobab studios’ first foray in the crypto space an easy entry on the up-next list. Founded in 2015 by former employees of Zynga, Dreamworks and Pixar, baobab has built a reputation as a leader in independent animation and have received investments from Comcast, Disney and Samsung. Alongside the Momoguro NFT collection, which tells a story of magical creatures who fuse together in endless combinations, baobab has been developing a metaverse game, a TV show, and physical collectibles. The team laid out all this info and more in a thread you can read here. Details surrounding the collection’s release are scarce, but it’s expected sometime in Q1 2023.

Notable Pepes go to those with Pepe Checks

It turns out this Pepe was indeed notable. After selling over 200,000 Pepe Checks in an open edition mint a few weeks ago, world-famous dank memer Vincent Van Dough has revealed his grand plan: to create more Notable Pepes. The new series of Pepe Cards pays homage to Rare Pepes and Fake Rares and will include OG Pepe artists returning to the meme lab.

Pepe Checks - technically the first Notable Pepe card - serve as the distribution mechanism. 5 Notable Pepes - each with varying supply and a different creator - will be released every Sunday, with Pepe Check holders receiving allowlist spots via raffle. Mints are planned for every Sunday at 4:20PM EST at a cost of 0.069Ξ, although these details could change over time - check the Notable Pepes Twitter and Telegram for the full breakdown on upcoming cards.

Market Overview:

The 10 days since the Blur airdrop have been some of the strangest days I have seen in the NFT market over the 18 months I’ve been here daily. Volume has skyrocketed while market share has shifted dramatically towards Blur, with the new kid taking as much as 80% of daily volume despite OpenSea’s attempt to match their pricing by cutting fees to 0% and making royalties optional.

TVL in Blur’s bidding pools increased almost 400% after the token released, from ~$36M to ~$120M at the time of writing. OSF and Mando dumped 71 Apes into bids without moving the floor on Tuesday night. Machi is doing material amounts of volume on his own, getting tokens dumped into their bids and subsequently dumping into other bids like a merry-go-round while deploying over 6,500Ξ into the market. 50% of total volume on Blur has been coming from less than 300 wallets. Starting just a few hours ago, the bid walls that have looked ever so strong over the past week have started to decay, leading many floors lower after a week of farming-related stagnation. We’ve had more daily volume lately than in many months, but it’s cyclical nature has made volume statistics less meaningful than ever.

Half the space says we’ve entered a new regime of deep liquidity and efficient markets. The other half bemoans the likely death of royalties as the end of NFTs as we know it. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle, but it’s far too early to draw decisive conclusions. Whatever the case, it’s hard to see how this “deep liquidity” - which can be recycled across collections - persists in the long term, unless the 300 or so wallets fueling it somehow keep digging tokens out of the couch. While I don’t like to make predictions, it seems like chaos of one kind or another could be on the horizon sometime soon.

a KID called BEAST breaks out after mint concludes

With a visual style clearly aimed at the streetwear-loving sect of digital collectors, AKCB hopes to create a technology-infused lifestyle brand. Beasts are divided into 20 different groups that function as sub-communities; minters took a short quiz to determine which group they’d be placed in. AR is a major focus for the project and each Beast has its own 3D model which is viewable on OpenSea or in the hub on their website. While the project is certainly aimed at a specific niche of collectors, its rapid rise from ~0.4Ξ last week to where it currently sits at ~1.2Ξ caught plenty of attention.

Checks continue their timeline occupation ahead of burn

While market metas can come and go in as little as a week, Jack Butcher’s Checks have occupied the market’s collective mind for a bit over a month now. Their influence can be seen clearly in the hundreds of derivatives and more opaquely in projects like Lucréce’s Proceed with Caution. We’ll soon find out whether the symbols of faux verification are elevated to the artistic pantheon or relegated to meta meme folder, as the long-awaited burn is set to begin this Sunday, February 12th.

Schmrypto, the top holder of Checks with 508 tokens, has already voiced his intent to create the Black Check - which requires 4,096 Checks - through the formation of a DAO. While this could create huge demand, the market may simply lose interest - it’s anyone’s guess where things go once the burn begins.

Kanpai Pandas sign UFC champion Jon Jones

Before long, laypeople may look at the Panda logo and think, “I know them, that’s the brand all the fighters and poker players wear.” After months of collaborations with UFC fighters and card sharks the everyday follower may or may not know, the Pandas announced their big fish - household name Jon “Bones” Jones. The two-time Light Heavyweight Champion and UFC GOAT candidate will return to the octagon for the first time since 2020 as the main event at UFC 285 in March, this time with the Pandas as his official apparel brand. As far as partnerships between NFT projects and celebrities go, this is easily amongst the most impressive - and impactful, as it nearly guarantees the Pandas a bit of mainstream media shine ahead of JJ’s return.

The Otherside teases Legends of Mara

In December 2022, Yuga Labs announced the Second Trip - the second gameplay demo event for The Otherside - would take place in late March and include more gamification and higher energy than the First, which was largely a tech demo. On the 7th, they gave Otherdeed holders another event for their calendars - Otherside: The Legends of the Mara is a stand-alone 2D experience that will take place after the Second Trip. There aren’t any details about The Legends of the Mara and other announcements have been relatively sparse lately, but that didn’t prevent Otherdeeds from topping volume charts over the past seven days with over 10,000Ξ in volume.

PROOF announces passes will sunset after 3 years

In their most recent town hall, the PROOF team announced that PROOF Collective Passes will sunset on January 1, 2025. In practicality, this has a few direct implications: Grails will become a paid, public mint, PROOF podcasts will likely add advertisements, and access to research reports will likely require a monthly subscription. While disappointing to holders, the move makes sense from a business standpoint as PROOF attempts to transition, at least in some respects, from small club to respected media outlet. The announcement had an immediate impact on price, as PROOF passes fell over 40% since the disclosure on Tuesday the 7th.

SoRare NBA sets record with Unique Giannis sale

Launched alongside the start of the 2022 season in October, SoRare NBA saw their largest card sale yet earlier this week when Giannis Antetokounmpo’s “Unique” card went for 113.8Ξ. Unique is the highest card tier, with only one Unique-level card available for each player annually. Currently in their 33rd Game Week, SoRare NBA has steadily introduced new features throughout the season, such as custom competitions with unique requirements and rewards. Their free-to-play fantasy sports, which also include soccer (football, sorry Euros) and baseball, are commonly one of the most traded NFT collections in the entire space.

“We’re doing Ordinals” is this week’s most popular headline

We discussed Bitcoin’s new Ordinals protocol, which enables data of various kinds to be inscribed on single Satoshis, last week. Since then, the hype surrounding them has reached a fever pitch. While older (read: inscribed like two weeks ago) collections like Ordinal Punks have seen sales as high as 9.5 BTC (~131Ξ), a slew of Ethereum-native projects have made plans to create inscriptions. Existing collections creating Ordinals of some kind include Anonymice, ChainFaces Arena, and On-Chain Monkey, all of which saw substantial volume on announcement. Elsewhere, new Ethereum-based collections have sprung up and seen volume on the promise that they will be inscribing assets on Bitcoin and giving them to holders of related Ethereum NFTs.

Defy Mosaics are the next step in Lucréce’s colorful puzzle

Lucréce released Proceed with Caution as an open edition a few weeks ago and, after dropping hints, rewarded those who collected a full set of colors with a Defy Mosaic. Each Mosaic is a unique generative piece containing Defys of various colors, with 10 “legendary” pieces that contain only one color. Lucréce says the collection pays homage to pop art of old, symbolizing the commodification of culture objects through the small differences in each piece. Whether or not the mosaic collection, which launched through Async Art, is the conclusion of the Proceed with Caution experiment is unclear.

Life in West America ventures through the uncanny valley

If you glance quickly at Life in West America, you might see a simple collection of photographs of 20th century America. The new collection from AI art platform BrainDrops and artist Roope Rainisto is described as a “post-photography project” and was generated using custom-trained Dreambooth AI models. Images full of nostalgic themes melt together to create a collection that sits somewhere between reality and a dream, depending where (and how closely) you look. After minting for 0.1Ξ on Wednesday, the collection found an instant audience and currently sits around 3Ξ.

Loud Punx bring crypto VIPs to Rolling Loud

Rolling Loud is the latest music festival to embrace NFTs. Loud Punx, their collection of generative avatars, provide holders with lifetime VIP access to Rolling Loud festivals across the globe. Other holder perks include exclusive merchandise and digital experiences and content. While other music festivals, such as Coachella and Tomorrowland, have dabbled in the realm of digital collectibles, Loud Punx is the largest collection so far with the most expansive benefits. It’ll be interesting to see how the collection fairs over time and whether or not Rolling Loud attendees outside of the NFT space have any interest in them.

Pepe Checks see VVD turn ERC-1155s into memecoins

Collector, curator and memer Vincent Van Dough joined the Checks derivative party last weekend with an open edition mint of Checks colored as the famous frog, Pepe. The mint, priced at $6.9, exceeded anyone’s expectations, selling over 230,000 pieces and netting VVD a cool $1.4M. Immediately after the mint closed, Jack Butcher changed the metadata for the original Checks to match the Pepe graphic on VVD’s edition. While the frog collector has since dropped some hints that a burn may be in the works, there are no officially announced plans for the collection yet.

The total supply of Pepe Checks looks outlandish in the NFT world and is easier to think of in terms of fungible coins. Many in The One have seen the project as the incarnation of John Patten’s prediction that an ERC-1155 token will become meme money sensation similar to DOGE or SHIB. Pepe Checks could certainly accomplish something of the sort, depending on where VVD takes the project from here.

Reddit releases Super Bowl collectibles as wallets soar

Things have been pretty quiet on the Reddit Avatar front since they got their moment in the sun last September. Their new collection of Super Bowl avatars provides an opportunity to check back in. Reddit users can claim one of the four NFL-themed avatars for free here. While there haven’t been as many outlandish Avatar sales in recent months, NFTstatistics provided some great insight into the numbers related to Reddit avatars in one of his daily videos this week. Unique Reddit wallets continue rising and currently sit just above 6M - an astounding number when you consider that only 2.3M Ethereum wallets have purchased an NFT on the largest marketplaces.

Rug Radio’s Faces of Web 3 await reveal next week

The avatar collection illustrated by Cory Van Lew concluded their mint on the 9th. While there were some issues with the expanded allowlist mint (which the team detailed in this blog post), the team is working with those effected to make things right. Render’s Game is the next collection from Mount Vitruvius

Best known for his Mind the Gap and Z-Huge collections, generative artist Anthony Hiley-Mann (better known as Mount Vitruvius) will release his first collection with Art Blocks on the 13th. With a title that pays homage to the 1985 science fiction novel Ender’s Game, MV describes Render’s Game as a collection “centered on self-reflection” and challenging his own creative processes. It’s one of the more anticipated Art Blocks collections of the past few months - judging from various test renders, deservedly so. You can experiment with the rendering algorithm on Sansa before the mint takes place early next week.

Yuga prepares The Summoning as Dookey Dash closes

The Dookey Dash sewers closed on Wednesday and Sewer Pass holders are preparing for the next phase of Yuga’s lengthy, interactive mint. According to Yuga’s summary blog post, 25,525 pass holders played nearly 7.5M Dookey Dash runs over 700,000 hours. After the sewers closed, the timeline on the MDVMM site was updated with a few things: scores are being reviewed until the 15th, then holders can “lick the toad” on the 22nd before The Summoning takes place on March 8th. Details around The Summoning are still very scarce, but we know (assume?) that Sewer Passes will be transformed into Mechs, which will then be revealed sometime in late March. Bitcoin re-enters the NFT space with Ordinals

While some of the first NFTs were on Bitcoin, most notably RarePepes, digital collectibles have never been the chain’s headline story - until this week. In January, Bitcoin developer Casey Rodarmor launched Ordinals, a protocol that enables individual Satoshis (the fractional unit of Bitcoin) to be “imbued with meaning” through a process called inscription. The new protocol has sparked a fierce debate within the Bitcoin ecosystem as maximalists contemplate whether they should actively censor transactions containing Ordinals.

Proponents of the experimental Ordinals, such as Udi Wertheimer and Eric Wall, see them as not only as an avenue for increased Bitcoin adoption, but also as a potential means of increasing Bitcoin’s security through higher fees. A variety of projects have sprung up, including Bitcoin Rocks, Ordinal Punks and Taproot Wizards.

Canto NFTs burst onto the scene with smooth jazz

Launched in August 2022, Canto is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain that has built a culture around “Free Public Infrastructure.” Over the past few weeks, the chain has become the talk of the timeline while the Canto token is up from ~$0.08 on January 1st to ~$0.56 today. The increase in visibility, wallet count and total transactions has, predictably, facilitated the rise of Canto NFTs.

Older collections like Longnecks, Shnoises and Dead Ends have performed the best, with Shnoises rising from ~40C at the beginning of last week to ~1,000C today. Their success has attracted dozens of low-quality launches, but a few newer collections have done well - most notably CantoGraphs. While Alto Market has seen rather significant downtime recently due to the massive increase in users, the smooth jazz soundtrack they provide almost makes up for it. Chimpers embark on their first adventure

After months of training in the Dojo, the pixel monkeys have set off on the next phase of their journey. Over the coming months, a series of 6 adventures will take place in which holders have the chance to win artwork and other prizes related to TBAC Series 2. Staked Chimpers are automatically enrolled in the Adventure, which is “like a board game, but for Chimps.” Each Chimp rolls a dice once per day and moves the rolled number of steps across the beautifully illustrated pixel board. While the “base dice” is 1-4, Chimps earn an additional number for each bandana level they earned in the Dojo, enabling green bandanas to move a maximum of 7 steps. Cool Cats shift their brand positioning with slew of new info

It’s been a week full of news and announcements for the Cool Cats. In their first live-streamed Town Hall on the 1st, the Cats team brought their refreshed vision to the table for the community to see. In addition to shifting their brand positioning from cute and family friendly to cool and multi-generational, they announced that passive $MILK generation will end on the 7th while Cooltopia v1 will remain active, it will no longer be updated and new uses for Pets and $MILK will be introduced.

Their reworked website will become “a one-stop shop” for all the information about their ecosystem and introduces the Cool Score, a gamification system designed to reward loyal and active holders. Fractures were released to holders for free and will evolve over time, and Explorers - those front-facing Cats you’ve seen around - will allow for customization while providing new participants a low-cost entry to the ecosystem. DenDekaDen announces partnership with Toei Animation

On Friday the 3rd, Toei Animation released a press statement announcing their involvement with DenDekaDen for the first time. Toei, one of the most well-known anime studios in the world, produced a number of iconic animes including as One Piece, Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon. DenDekaDen, their first foray into the NFT space, follows “seven characters who will gradually evolve from spirits to gods as they interact with fans via their Twitter accounts.” The project, which is admittedly a bit difficult to follow for those who don’t speak Japanese, rose ~500% after the announcement and currently sits at ~4.5Ξ.

RTFKT reveals EXODUS pod-burning event

After rumors of the pod burn circulated for many months, it finally arrived on the 31st. Space Pods and Loot Pods - the virtual home of Clones that double as OnCyber galleries - were automatically updated, while two new pods, the ExoPod and LuxPod, were introduced. Burning two Space Pods and two Loot Pods creates an ExoPod, while the LuxPod requires 20 of each. The burn event was revealed in cinematic fashion as RTFKT begins to tell the story of The Exodus, in which the Pods will play an important role. Learn more on The Exodus page of RTFKT’s site.

dial-up 56k revives the social mystery mint

Information scavenger hunts aren’t new to the NFT space, but when executed well, they can be one of the most interesting ways to engage with the community both before and after a mint. dial-up 56k revived and refreshed the engagement tactic with a combination of clues given out through Twitter and a simple command-line based website. The collection, which features art reminiscent (or possibly sampled from) WAGDIE, airdropped one of three tokens displaying floppy disks to wallets that completed various tasks (which you can read about in this thread). There isn’t a lot of information to go off of yet, but that’s what makes it fun, isn’t it?

DigiDaigaku Villains are minted and unmasked

The long-awaited Villains mint took place on the 26th and those who were selected are able to claim their Villain until the 9th - if you entered, make sure to check their website to see if you won. On the 2nd, Villains could be unmasked, an optional process that reveals the character’s unique name and and class. The Digi ecosystem continues to grow larger and more complex - Lucky Trader has a great guide that breaks down the role of each collection. The ecosystem will expand again on February 12th when Dragons mint during the Super Bowl - you can enter for a chance to win one here.

Doodles 2 Wearables are live on Flow

Dooplicators were activated on the evening of January 31st, allowing Doodles holders to create Doodles 2 wearables based on their original Doodle. Available on Flow’s Gaia marketplace, common wearables like socks are available for as little as $12, but items that were dooplicated from rare Doodles like Cats and Apes are listed for as much as $200,000. In total, the wearables collection has seen ~$155,000 in volume so far, while beta passes for Doodles 2 currently sit at ~$100 and have seen ~$48,000 in volume. More beta passes and wearables will hit the market later this month after Genesis Boxes are opened.

FAKE MEMES highlight the history of meme cards

A new cohort of meme artists have played off the success of The Memes by 6529 to create a project that pays homage to Rare Pepes and Fake Rares. FAKE MEMES kicked off in mid-December when JpegKillah created the FAKE FACTORY, an adaptation of Grant Yun’s 6529 card MEME FACTORY. Four more cards, all adaptations of The Memes in one way or another, were subsequently released. Holders of all five were rewarded with the MEMEASF Master Pass, while holders on individual cards received a MEMEASF Mint Pass. These passes, illustrated by prolific memer Mike Three, grant holders a guaranteed (Master) and allowlist (Mint) spots for upcoming FAKE MEMES, which will presumably continue to riff off The Memes while highlighting the historic originality first seen in Pepes on Bitcoin.

Ikehaya Pass had no utility, until it did

CryptoNinja co-founder Ikehaya wanted to play around with Manifold and decided to release what he called the Ikehaya Pass. While he immediately disclosed that it had no utility, he decided to create some after the pass peaked at ~0.4Ξ and saw over 300Ξ of volume in less than 24 hours. As a result, holders will soon be able to burn multiple Ikehaya Passes in exchange for art from promising Japanese artists including Rii2 and at least four others. Mad Lads will be Backpack’s xNFT test subjects

Backpack, the wallet in development by the team behind xNFTs and the Anchor Framework, has been in limited release for a while. It’s functionalities are ambitious and, given my limited space, better summed up by founder Armani Ferrante’s own tweets. The Mad Lads are Backpack’s avatar collection and the first ever xNFT (a term also better explained by Backpack). While these Lads serve the usual functions of an avatar collection - forming a community and the like - they will also be the lab rats for Backpack's expansive product experiments. While Backpack announced they would be creating an avatar collection some months ago, the Mad Lads were just announced on February 1st. There’s not many details past this, but keep up with them on Twitter and Discord to find out more as it becomes known.

Oh Baby Games announces $6M raise ahead of play tests

Founded by Pas, Oh Baby Games is different than most crypto gaming studios. Their games - the first of which will be What The Kart, a racing kart game - genuinely look like fun, something not many can say. Their character roster is made up of CT icons like smolting, CL and Keyboard Monkey. On January 31st, they announced their first round of funding from investors including eGirl Capital, Merit Circle DAO and Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin. While we don’t know many details about the games or the associated tokens, we may find out more soon, as they’ve opened applications for alpha testers - sign up here for a chance to run over smolting before anyone else.

Azuki unveils Hilumia and partners with Bilibili

While their one-year anniversary came and went without any huge announcement, Azuki did unveil a new section on their website - Hilumia, the crossroads of The Garden. It serves to further Azuki’s lore by introducing a variety of in-universe brands like the shops at Ember Square or MODA, the local museum. They also announced a partnership with Bilibili, a leading video community platform in China. The partnership serves to explore innovations in media content while introducing some new badges and a Beanz sticker pack in the Bilibili app. The release of a new animated trailer on the 23rd has the community buzzing with conspiracies on what it could mean - if anything. I’d expect we find out pretty soon.

Checks are a deceptively simple social commentary

Jack Butcher, the designer-turned-internet artist known best for illustrating complex ideas in understandable graphics at Visualize Value, does little without a plan. After releasing a simple open edition piece of 80 verification checks, he began to reveal his plan: burning two Checks will reduce the piece to 40, then 20, and so on until reaching one. Because it was an open edition with uncapped supply, Jack and crew had to reverse-engineer the burn mechanics to fit the total supply. While we aren’t sure when the burn will start, it will seemingly be within the next few weeks. The details are all housed in this (very long) Twitter thread.

Despite his fastidiousness, no plan could have foreseen the massive community response to the project. People used the CC0 template to create Checks made of Nouns, Pepes, Punks, organs, shoes and everything in between - see video above. Jack’s made some rounds to talk about the project in more detail than I can go into here - check out Proof’s Artist Profile with him from the 24th to hear more about it straight from the value visualizer.

Doodles acquire Golden Wolf + Doodles 2 will be on Flow

The award-winning animation studio will continue operating independently and working on other projects alongside their work with Doodles. Golden Wolf founder Ingi Erlingsson will join the Doodles team as CCO. The GW team has created animations for Doodles in the past and have also worked with household names like Minions, Adidas and Levi’s.

This morning, Doodles announced that Doodles 2 will be on Flow Blockchain. While they had confirmed Doodles 2 would not be on Ethereum at NFT NYC 2022, they did not say where the customizable collection would live at that time (and everyone seems to forget they ever said it). The announcement says to expect more details on Dooplicators, Genesis Boxes and the Doodles 2 beta access in the coming days.

Kanpai Pandas get an aesthetic update

The collection’s art received a full refresh on the 16th with the goal of creating a cleaner look that further strengthens their brand identity - check out some of the new Pandas here. The art update comes a few weeks after the announcement of Panda Points, a loyalty rewards system they are aiming to release in Q1. Points earned will be determined by rarity and points will be tradable on their own PPDEX. The first points integration was already announced - the Pandas have inked a licensing deal with Raini to develop quality mini-games that make use of Pandas and their Points. The string of announcements led the Pandas to a new all-time high this week, topping at a floor price of about 2Ξ, where they still currently sit.

Lil Pudgys are free to roam whichever chain they choose

Only hours after the Doodles 2 to Flow announcement, the Pudgy team announced they have integrated the LayerZero bridge, allowing the Lil Pudgys to move to other chains. To start, the Lil guys can choose between Arbitrum, Polygon and BNB, although more may be introduced in the future. There’s no doubt Panda King Icebagz has been in Luca’s ear about this one.

Explorers will be rewarded with a soul-bound token based on which chain they move to using their recently announced soulTranport function, a decentralized method for Pengoo sub-communities to create soul-bound tokens.

The Memes by 6529 find their way into the spotlight

Launched by 6529 on the very appropriate date of June 9th, The Memes seek to further his fight for the open metaverse through, well, memes. They’ve flown upwards over the past few weeks and chatter about them has followed suit. Specific cards, such as the Nakamoto Freedom card, have become grail targets for large collectors. There are currently 57 cards (of varying supply) and that number is growing by the week, making the collection a bit of bear for newcomers to fully grasp. Createra launches land for their voxel metaverse

Voxel sandbox universes are far from new to the NFT space but Createra hopes to carve their own spot in the competitive sector. The “creator-oriented metaverse” has raised $10M in funding led by a16z and plans to focus on younger generations of players that are already familiar with games built around user-generated content. By giving players the ability to create and own their own levels and models with easy to use tools, Createra hopes to foster a wide range of different gaming communities that live within the same game space, similar to Roblox. The collection is set to reveal on February 4th at 5PM UTC.

Grails III by PROOF will reveal artists on Friday

The third iteration of PROOF’s mystery art collection has minted. Like usual, minters know what their art looks like, but won’t know who created it until Friday, when PROOF will reveal each artist on a livestream starting at 11AM. The fun of Grails comes from the combination of artist anonymity and collector choice: each of the 20 pieces have their own max supply but the minters’ decisions are ultimately what determines the end supply of each token. Grail #8 has the lowest supply at 11 units, while Grail #7 and #13 each have 150 units (hat-tip TylerD). Tune in Friday to see who made what.

Lucréce plays color games with open editions

With an instantly recognizable style and a lengthy body of work that includes Des Monsters, a collection of monster portraits, Lucréce is the latest artist to play with gamified open editions. In 15 minutes, Proceed w/ Caution sold 8,408 pieces on the 18th - each the same, but not for long. On the 20th, holders were given seven days to exchange their blue pieces for one of seven other colors. Each color has a maximum supply of 1,051 and while most of them are about the same price, the Raspberry edition has already minted out and sits at 0.8Ξ. This thread from S4mmy.eth at Origins dives a bit deeper into the project.

PORSCHΞ flops tragically (until they cut supply and moon)

The latest legacy company to misunderstand the NFT community is none other than luxury car brand Porsche. While they initially planned to sell 7,500 911 NFTs, they audibled when they discovered that not many collectors desired to pay 0.911Ξ for a vague roadmap that’s been purposefully separated from the company’s public image. But once they announced the mint would close on the 25th, regardless of supply, some kind degens stepped in to help them out. 2,363 tokens were minted, and in classic fashion, the trick worked like a charm - since the mint closed, the collection has risen as high as 3Ξ with nearly 2,000Ξ of volume traded.

Sewer Pass does numbers as Dookey Dash launches

Whether you love them or hate them, when Yuga rolls out something new, the kids trade it. In the seven days since mint, Sewer Passes have traded for nearly 21,000Ξ while rising from ~1.5Ξ to ~2.7Ξ. Over 3.5M Dookey Dash runs have been completed by ~20,000 players as Apes compete to top the leaderboard and snag the shit key. Dookey Dash is available to play until February 8th and The Summoning - presumably the Sewer Pass redemption event - will take place one week later on February 15.

$BLUR Airdrop is coming February 14

Originally scheduled for the end of January, Blur has delayed their token airdrop until Valentine’s Day (cruel joke). The airdrop has been divided into three phases - the first based on total NFT volume traded, the second based on Blur volume, and the third on Blur bidding. We don’t have many details - nothing regarding the tokenomics or the conversion from the “care packages” to $BLUR has been released so far. While the airdrop will hopefully provide NFT traders with a nice little stimulus, this may be offset by the end of airdropping farming and could be further impacted by their tokenomics.

Kosetto is your new personalized sticker pack

Instead of creating a limited supply collection with large upfront costs, Kosetto has opted for the opposite - claiming a Kosetto is free and the supply is uncapped. Once claimed, customized and named, Kosettos can equip wearable NFTs and load into sticker packs on mobile phones or their web app, allowing holders to use memes featuring their personalized Kosetto immediately. The team previously planned to distribute wearables for free through a daily gacha game, but opted to change plans because of the prevalence of bots - they haven’t yet announced how the free wearables will be distributed moving forward. Regardless, their customizable meme-ability makes them one to watch. You can create your own on the Kosetto web app or on mobile now.

Rug Radio x Corey Van Lew PFPs launch on February 6

The decentralized NFT media ecosystem is set to release their avatar collection created by Corey Van Lew in two weeks. The first mint window will run from the 6th until the 8th, during which time Rug Radio Genesis (currently 0.4Ξ) holders can purchase an avatar for 690 $RUG, their native token. Additional sales phases, including a limited allowlist and public mint, may be used depending on how many are minted in the first window - these subsequent sale phases would be priced in Ethereum. Rug Radio has recently hired a new Co-CEO in Loxley Fernandes and recently completed their first test of Listen-to-Earn Twitter Spaces rewards.

Azuki ecosystem rises ahead of 1-year anniversary

Azuki trades over the past month, via Parsec

While they haven’t made any official announcements over the past month, Azuki and BEANZ started a strong move upwards shortly after the new year in what looks to me like a classic “somebody knows something” scenario. Azuki has moved from a floor around 11Ξ to 15Ξ while BEANZ have double from 1Ξ to 2Ξ. Their one-year anniversary on the 12th is quickly approaching. While this wouldn’t be the first time the NFT space has created much ado about nothing with Azuki - remember those calendar dates on the website? - it seems pretty likely that they will have some kind of celebration.

Chimpers get their own OnCyber Dojos

The pixel monkeys maintained their reputation of shipping products over the past month. All Chimpers that were staked during the snapshot are eligible to claim an OnCyber Dojo, which can be claimed until Friday here. They also raffled a variety of Timbers pixel art to staked Chimpers earlier in December. Whether it be staking leaderboards or online arcade games, the Chimpers team is always giving their community something new to play around with and seem to be preparing to kick off the next phase of their adventure sometime soon.

DeGods and y00ts set to leave Solana

On Christmas day, Frank made an announcement that certainly elicited some feelings - Dust Labs will be leaving Solana in Q1 ‘23, with DeGods heading to Ethereum and y00ts heading to Polygon. Interpreted as a betrayal by many in the Solana community, this has been the most contentious topic over the past month. Dust Labs received a $3M grant from the Polygon Foundation as part of the move, which only added fuel to the fire. Tensions remained high over the past week when Solana doggie coin $BONK excluded y00ts and DeGods holders from the airdrop. Whatever your feelings on the move, it will certainly bring some more eyes to Polygon, a chain ripe for partnership with international corporations - something Frank has hinted at on Twitter more than once. More details on the exact timing for the departure should come out this month.

Doodles shed light on Dooplicators, Doodles 2

We’ve learned more about what’s coming for Doodles in the past two weeks than we had in the preceding six months. Genesis Boxes will crack open in February and Dooplicators will gain functionality in January. While we know the Doodles 2 will, eventually, be an uncapped collection, it won’t start that way - holders of Genesis Boxes and Dooplicators will receive tradable beta keys to access Doodles 2, allowing the collection to grow over time. Expect to hear more as D2 opens up beta access.

Friendship Bracelets rise again as mint comes to a close

Friendship Bracelets has proven this yet again, as the ever-growing collection has been on the rise since the mint first opened in November. Claimable by anyone who held any AB token on October 26th, Friendship Bracelets were created by Alexis André in collaboration with AB founder Snowfro and are the first collection in the new Exploration series. The collection has seen another surge in size as good samaritans issue PSAs to check eligibility before the mint window closes today, January 10th at 1PM EST, with over 4,000 new tokens minted. Killabears find new highs (again) as their story continues

The violently cute teddy bears, which seemed to fly under the radar even as their floor price rose, have continued to excite their community through a combination of intriguing storytelling and interesting gamification experiments. When Luca Netz acquired the Pudgy Penguin project in April ‘22, holders and spectators looked on with skepticism. In the proceeding 8 months, the new team took the Pengoos to new heights in the most impressive pivot the space has seen so far. The Pudgy ecosystem has emerged as a winner again in the previous week, leading a basket of cute animal pfps to higher floors across the board. rektguy breaks through resistance to new highs

In a space full of roadmaps and plans and this and that, rektguy has always been an outlier. The collection of seizure-inducing skeletons from artist and Rug Radio personality OSF and the team at Canary Labs have garnered a committed community that comes with benefits like access to daily NFT and crypto updates from their partner community, Degenz. After months of accumulation around ~0.3Ξ, rektguy has gone vertical over the past month. The appearance of The Keeper on Twitter last week has given the community a fresh mystery to investigate, opening the possibility for new developments in the near future.

Sappy Seals launch the Meme Machine

The de facto mascot for every memer on Twitter just made it a whole lot easier to meme. The Meme Machine uses AI to create memes containing holder’s Seals, allowing for instant creation and distribution of personalized memes of all kinds. While it’s starting off “small and simple,” the Seals have plans to expand to other communities including Pudgy Penguins, The Plague and others while also allowing users to earn (something) for their memeing and marketing efforts. Another benefactor of this week’s bounce, the Seals currently sit just below their all-time high.

The Captainz mint and prepare for a lengthy reveal

Memeland’s highly anticipated Captainz mint started on the 4th when Potatoz holders and Memelisters sent in their payments. On the 7th, Captainz were airdropped to buyers and saw initial sales as high as 7Ξ before dropping to ~5Ξ over the next day, where they still sit. Like the Potatoz that came before them, the Captainz will reveal in phases over the next few months. Read their FAQ here for more details on what comes next.

Eternal Harmony creates new beauty every few days

Eternal Harmony is a first-of-its-kind work of ever-changing art. The collection of generative paintings composed of watercolor and oil pastels comes from Proportio, a traditional painter who started creating NFT artworks in 2021. Every three days, each Eternal Harmony throws away its identity to generate a new one in a process that sees painted assets layered in a “collage-like overlay of elements.” Creating beautiful generative paintings is hard enough, but to do so again and again is an accomplishment. Kubz form the second tier of the Keungz ecosystem

After holding a bid-based auction a la Metadrop, Kubz sold out for 0.469Ξ on the 28th and were airdropped to winning bidders on the 30th. The Keungz ecosystem, founded by Keungz, has been around since the release of Genesis Keungz in September and will eventually release their 10k collection, YogaPetz. The community has strong ties and a similar structure to Memeland. Kubz will begin their reveal, which consists of multiple phases, on January 13th.

Mutant Hounds are a booger monkey’s best friend

While Mutant Hounds are not an official Yuga collection, one could easily assume they are. The lore-driven collection of mutated dogs comes from mega-mutant Lior and the team at Mutant Cartel, a long-standing DAO for Mutant Apes. With art that arguably one-ups their owners, the collection has already set off on a storytelling journey that looks like it will include more than a few friends. Hound Collars are set to be redeemed for Hounds on January 11th.

DigiDaigaku Villains set to mint “soon”

After three months of saying FOLLOW ME RETWEET THIS AND REPLY FOR WHITELIST, Limit Break founder Gabriel Leydon says the Villains mint, the first 10,000 token Digi collection, is “very soon.” Potions were introduced a few weeks ago and their open-source “royalty solutions” contract is set to be released next week. Their Dragons mint will take place during their Super Bowl ad on February 12th, implying the Villains mint will likely take place in the next few weeks. Enter for an actual chance to win a whitelist spot here (which, of course, requires a retweet and a follow).

Parallel announces their final Pack Drop

The crypto card game years in the making has reached their final pack drop. Pack Drop 6 mirrors the format of PD5 in which qualified holders can prepay until the 12th with packs being distributed on the 14th. Check the PD6 Manifest here to see if you qualify, and if you don’t, remaining packs will be distributed on a FCFS basis on the 14th.

The Trial of Jimmy the Monkey begins January 18th

Judging from the prologue trailer released on December 21st to the “mysteries” revealed on the 28th, along with some other details, this Trial is shaping up to be Yuga’s most inventive mint yet. Described as a “playable, interactive experience,” TJM will take place from January 18th to February 8th according to their new website. The mint is free for all Apes and Mutants, implying a total supply of 30,000 - of what, we’re not sure yet. More details including a “guide” to study are set to be released tomorrow, January 11th.

We are so back (and I am terrified it’s just bait). A substantial amount of volume has returned to the market in the past month and while some of that may have been fueled by Blur bid-washing in mid-December, it feels quite organic over the past week. Transactions and active users also show clear increases and anecdotally I’d guess many of us have seen some AFK friends return to see what all the fuss is about.

Older, more established projects have dominated the market over the past week or two and there are some differentiators for these - not only are they more established and in many cases more trustworthy than newer projects, but they have fully formed communities with committed holders. They also likely have some inactive holders. These two factors may be contributing to the bounces we are seeing in many familiar faces, as the total number of tokens available to be sold is probably a good bit lower than total supply in many cases.

While there are some market-wide catalysts on the horizon, like the $BLUR airdrop, nobody should be calling this a new bull run. These bounces do not last forever. Enjoy it while it lasts - the most I am hoping for is a few weeks.

Bored Apes stake while waiting for Jimmy’s Christmas trial

On November 24, BAYC announced the long-awaited roadmap item The Trial of Jimmy the Monkey will begin this Christmas. No further details were released besides the ornate image above, but the announcement didn’t need specific info to create some excitement.

Ape and ApeCoin staking, an initiative now 8 months in the making, launched on December 5. The protocol, established and funded by the ApeCoin DAO and developed by Horizen Labs, allows holders to earn rewards - unless, of course, they live in the United States or other restricted jurisdictions. The three-year program will distribute 17.5% of the total supply of ApeCoin, including 100M tokens in the first year. Jenkins the Valet partners with 12 projects for new podcast

The 8-episode podcast series focuses on Jenkins’ quest to find his BAKC, Goodboy, who has gone missing. Holders from 100+ NFT communities can write a character bio for their tokens and submit them for potential inclusion in the story. 12 preferred partners including Goblintown, Sappy Seals and Pudgy Penguins signed agreements allowing Jenkins to feature their IP in the podcast, including names, logos and lore.

Kanpai Pandas ride advisor announcements to new highs

While the Pandas are easily associated with degenerate gambling in Vegas, founder Ice Bagz and the team aim to add a new level of legitimacy to their work with the addition of new strategic advisors. Steve Espinosa, former senior technology advisor to the White House, and Steve Cohen, head of United Talent Agency’s Atlanta office, have joined the project over the past week. Despite a slow start, the Pandas have created a community with a unique feel and have support from many influential traders across DeFi and NFTs. They’ve continued attending NFL games in Vegas and expanded their ecosystem a bit with the Infinity Pandas collection.

Killabears climb as they enter the KillaLabs experiment

Their storytelling-through-staking approach continues with a new 45-day stay in the lab. After receiving various rewards including KillaGear for their first 30-day stake in the Kilton, participants in Chapter 2 will receive guaranteed KillaTrait rewards while having a chance to win various NFTs from the collection. The project has reached new highs over the past few weeks, reaching a floor above 3Ξ at times.

Killabears is an incredibly active project and while keeping up with the ecosystem can require some reading, constant communication and entertainment is one of their greatest strengths - catch up on the story so far on their website here.

RTFKT tumbles after MNTLH 2 turns into coupon code

With the release of Project Animus Eggs to all Clone holders on the 1st, it looked like RTFKT was set to close the year strong. The MNTLH 2 quest took place on the 4th and the Cryptokick iRL, RTFKT’s first smart sneaker, was announced the next day (more on CiRL below).

Instead of elation, though, their community was left feeling dissatisfied - and rightfully so - after the MNLTH 2 turned into a Lace Engine. The Lace Engine provides holders with a guaranteed CiRL mint at a price ~25% lower than the public. Secondary prices for the newly revealed coupon code plummeted from above 1.5Ξ to about 0.2Ξ and many voiced their displeasure. The RTFKT team has been receptive of the criticism but have certainly lost some confidence this week.

y00ts launch staking + merch + NFT Blue

Staking launched on November 28, allowing holders to earn y00tpoints without tokens leaving their wallets. One y00tpoint is earned for every minute staked. Points will be spent on various rewards including physical merch, airdrops and sponsored collaborations. The project debuted their first publicly available merch on the 7th alongside a new tool called NFT Blue that the team hopes will encourage the Solana community to support artists with royalties by turning your pfp into a star shape. In other news, founder Frank doxxed after some encouragement from outside actors.

Abstraction by Anon kickstarts a new meta

In the middle of the night on the 1st, a free mint of 333 pieces of colorfully abstract art “by anon” minted. 24 hours later, the collection had risen to 2Ξ as holders sought to solve the mystery of anon. After their Twitter was discovered, anon was seemingly everywhere - posters popped up in Miami, Las Vegas, Chicago, Moscow, Hong Kong and elsewhere. Opportunists took advantage of the ongoing mystery, releasing dozens of low-supply collection “by anon,” only adding to the confusion. A second official collection, Who i am is not important, the art is, was released on the 4th and the project still has holders wondering what exactly is going on and who anon might be. With over 800Ξ traded between the two collections, it’s safe to say our space still enjoys a good mystery.

Castaway Characters board for multi-phase reveal

The island-survival game from Branch airdropped genesis Characters, their first avatar collection, to holders of Rafts and Islands as well as their most active players. They’ve begun a multi-phase reveal that sees each token grouped into an airline and a boarding group over the course of three weeks. While characters are evenly distributed across 4 airlines, boarding groups determine their profession (rarity). Characters art will reveal sometime next week. Dmitri Cherniak debuts new collection Light Years

Created in collaboration with photography curation platform Fellowship, Light Years is a 100-piece collection produced in partnership with The Estate of László Moholy-Nagy, a Hungarian artists known for his integration of art and technology in the early 20th century. Each edition was created with a combination of code-based generative systems and hand-made preparations and each is accompanied by a physical silver gelatin print. Read more about the project here.

The Legend of Cockpunch is a new story from Tim Ferriss

Prolific author, podcaster and entrepreneur Tim Ferriss brings his multitude of experiences to NFTs with The Legend of Cockpunch, a “tale of a fantastical realm” he has categorized as “Emergent Long Fiction.” Over time, Ferriss will build out the universe with characters, maps and artwork that tie into his new Cockpunch podcast. Mint proceeds are being donated to the Saisei Foundation, a registered non-profit founded by Ferriss that funds research on “intractable” conditions including PTSD various addictions. The project has topped volume charts since its release and has seen over 3,000Ξ in volume traded so far.

State of the Art is ThankYouX’s largest project so far

An experiment in employing blockchain “as a medium rather than a tool for distribution,” State of the Art consists of four large-scale physical pieces of abstract art that have each been divided into 400 tiles. ThankYouX, who has been creating cryptoart since 2020, exhibited the four pieces at Art Basel last week. Each tile can be redeemed for its physical counterpart in early 2023. Before the physical redemption, collectors will be able to “merge” adjacent tiles together to create larger sections of the canvas.

While they haven’t specified exactly what the tokens will be used for, they’ve mentioned they will “unlock features.” The floor fell to around 0.45Ξ after reveal but has since recovered.

Despite the disappointments mentioned above and their US-only availability, the Cryptokicks iRL give RTFKT holders a good reason for excitement. Their first smart shoe comes in four colorways, each featuring customizable lights, wireless charging, Bluetooth connectivity and automatic lacing. At a cost between ~$350 and $1,300, they certainly aren’t cheap, but maybe their upcoming Move to Earn program can help subsidize. The shoes will be forged on May 1, 2023.

MNTGE is a wearables brand built around vintage clothes

Founded by fashion designer, collector and curator Sean Wotherspoon and advised by an array of individuals from across fashion, technology and music, MNTGE is bringing the past into the future. Their Day One Pass will give holders access to their market of vintage collectibles curated by Wotherspoon and others, as well as priority access to future drops. It’s a strange time in NFT land. Established collections are continuing to roll out new announcements, projects that have been building for months are launching and legacy establishments continue to show their interest in the space. Despite all the positives, the wider crypto market seems to be holding its breath in anticipation of the next piece of bad news. In a better environment, I would have expected some of the projects released this week to perform much better, but right now the name of the game is capital preservation. 10KTF is now part of the Yugaverse

Yuga Labs announced they have acquired WENEW, the company behind 10KTF, on Monday. Since launching in June 2021, WENEW has worked a number of collaborative projects with brands including Gucci, Louis Vutton and Puma while simultaneously building 10KTF into one of the most intriguing narrative universes in the NFT space. Former WENEW CEO Michael Figge will join Yuga as Chief Content Officer and co-founder Beeple will take on an advisory role. adidas Virtual Gear debuts an “eclectic mix” of merch

It’s not easy to design the ugliest NFT merch ever seen, but adidas may have done just that. Their newly revealed collection of eight “impossible silhouettes” contain 16 variations that pay homage to gmoney, Punks Comics and BAYC while simultaneously looking like Muppets from the chopping room floor. Still, the collection is their first foray into the world of wearables, an area that Nike and RTFKT have been playing in for months.

Azuki speeds into Abu Dhabi with Oracle Red Bull Racing

Lei the Lightning Azuki will be featured on Oracle Red Bull’s F1 cars for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend. The collaboration makes Lei, Azuki #8494, the first NFT character featured on an F1 car. Azuki and Bean holders can equip his racing jacket in the Collector’s Profile on their site and even read his driver bio on Red Bull Racing’s site. It seems like we’ve got news regarding Azuki every week as they continue to power their way towards becoming an established and recognizable brand outside of our NFT sphere.

Bored Apes flirt with liquidation levels before recovering

As panic spread throughout the crypto ecosystem last week, blue-chip NFTs took a hit across the board. As the BAYC floor dipped, chatter about liquidation levels on loaned Apes in BendDAO began to pick up again. Dozens of Apes were sent to auction by the lending protocol early this week, resulting in sales on the open market as low as 46Ξ. NFTstatistics.eth provided great coverage of the situation (as usual), noting that November 15th saw the most Ape sales (77) in a single day since the Otherdeed drop in April.

Castaways airdrop Treasure Chests to active players

The island survival game rewarded their holders and most active Beta participants with Treasure Chests, burnable tokens that contain in-game items and other prizes, including a limited number of Rafts and Islands. Their November 14th Town Hall provided more info on the Chests as well as info about the upcoming Homestead update and their next airdrop - Castaway Characters. Characters will be airdropped on the 28th to Raft and Island holders as well as top active players and will serve as “factory NFTs,” similar to genesis DigiDaigakus. Pudgy Penguins are on cereal boxes and in auction houses

On the 16th, the Pudgies announced a collaboration with The Breakfast Club, a new avatar project from Kellogg that features characters from their cereal brands (and is currently suspended on Twitter for some reason). The Penguins have also made their way into Sotheby’s with a digital auction taking place from the 18th to the 30th. Auction winners will receive a soulbound token for participating - more details on the auction can be found here. Scott Gray, the founder of Genie and current head of NFT product at Uniswap, also teased an upcoming announcement between Uniswap and the Pudgies on Twitter. The Huddle seems quite unbothered despite the state of the wider crypto ecosystem.

1984 brings a nostalgic gang of misfits to life

1984 hopes to use blockchain solutions to bring their story to life in a way traditional media is incapable of. Innovative features such as dynamic traits unlocked via on-chain achievements, a loot box reward system and soulbound tokens used for storytelling compliment their roadmap that includes plans for an animated series and IRL events. Despite a rather tumultuous path to release that included a public spat between founder Conde and Alex Lin, the Valhalla founder who was previously associated with 1984, the project has found some success in pre-reveal trading.

DegenScore rewards the biggest degens with The Beacon

Without knowing your name, DegenScore can tell others a lot about you. The web3 credential protocol looks through your transactions and summarizes your on-chain reputation in a DegenScore. Those with a score of 700 or more were granted first access to their newest tool, The Beacon, a soulbound token that gives holders access to a variety of opportunities from partner protocols. Launch partners include RageTrade, NFTperp, Gearbox and many more. DegenScore will be rolling out public access to The Beacon over the coming months.

Homa Games brings mobile game expertise to the web3

With over 1 billion game downloads, its safe to say Homa Games have some experience in the mobile game industry. After announcing a $100M Series B funding round in October, the French startup is diving into blockchain gaming. Their first collection features Valentine, the playable character that holders will carry across their universe. After the reveal, Homa will be publishing a clearer roadmap and detailing the utility Valentine holders receive in and out of their games. Humankind is the next project from Roboto’s Pablo Stanley

Artist Pablo Stanley is one of the kindest creators in the NFT space and puts that kindness on full display in his new collection, humankind. His previous works include the Robotos collection and Bueno.art, a no-code NFT design platform. The beautifully stylized collection tells the story of Chiquito Village through the lens of Maya, an adventurous child, and her monster friend Dallas. Humankind holders will receive exclusive benefits, including first dibs on future projects like Creaturekind, Spiritkind and Monsterkind, and will have access to a staking mechanism.

Prometheans is an on-chain game that can last forever

Giancarlo Chaux and the team at zero.fun have spun up a new game that is a social experiment of sorts. Prometheans exist to tend to the fire on the outskirts of their society. If the fire is not tended to (by minting a new Monk) every 15 minutes, it will be extinguished. Mints during each minute in the countdown are associated with a different monk character, creating an interesting game theory around when to mint. The project is using a pay-what-you-want model, but supporting them with at least 0.04Ξ will get you access to future perks from zero.fun. Read more info in this thread.

RarePass offers collectors access to historic cryptoart

SuperRare has been one of the greatest ambassadors of cryptoartists for years and hope to continue elevating artists with the RarePass. Holders are guaranteed an airdrop from one of the 24 participating artists - including OSF, Other World and XCOPY - each month for the next 12 months. Three randomly-selected holders will receive a 1/1 piece from the separate roster of special release artists each month. Additional benefits will also be announced. Led by CT trader, memer and manga lover Mārūsha, Kujira No Konton is an upcoming NFT-based manga and anime series. The series follows the fight between humans and the whales that have taken over the world (lmeow). While the project has been in development for months, they recently completed an open round of public fundraising that raised over 60Ξ from 70 contributors. While they’re difficult to find between all the memes, Mārūsha has been revealing some details on his Twitter, such as the inclusion of a limited number of animated legendaries. Follow their socials for more information on the collection as it becomes available.

RTFKT gets ready for the World Cup with free jerseys

3,333 Footballverse Jerseys are up for grabs in RTFKT’s latest physical-digital merch drop. Anyone can enter the raffle for a spot to mint one for free, although Clones receive a double-weighted entry. The raffle closes on the 21st and the jerseys will mint on the 23rd.

RTFKT’s first free merch drop comes only a few days after Nike announced “.swoosh,” their new Web3 platform. Read more details about .swoosh here. The Clones should have more in store before the months end, as RTFKT has previously mentioned that news about Project Animus will come in November.

Valhalla announces details about next week’s launch

The gaming-focused collection has finalized their allowlists and announced mint details ahead of their launch on Tuesday the 22nd. Those who bid in the Presale event will also have the opportunity to mint one token, with any remaining supply going to a public sale. 1,000 tokens will be sold in daily auctions starting in Q1 2023. The project plans to launch an independent marketplace in early 2023 and hope to debut a beta of their video game streaming platform by the end of Q1 ‘23. Look out for more info as the mint approaches.

NFT Market Overview:

As the crypto ecosystem continues to fight through a period of mass uncertainty that seems far from over, there are a number of metrics to keep an eye on in the NFT space - overall volume, volume share by marketplace and Blue Chip performance.

If we disregard the massive volume spike powered by Art Gobblers in late October/early November, daily volume has remained rather consistent. Still, a disproportionate amount of volume since the start of the FTX saga a few weeks ago has come from accepted offers instead of sales while also concentrating within more established blue chips - BAYC, for example, saw over 12,000Ξ out of ~60,000Ξ total volume in the past week.

The ongoing battle for market share is another story to keep an eye on. Sealaunch’s volume share chart below shows that Blur has made a much larger dent in OpenSea’s dominance than any marketplace before it. The debate around royalties has become a key factor in this competition and X2Y2’s move to reinstate royalties on all collections could push even more volume to Blur. Despite their success, we can’t be sure of Blur’s true market share until after their airdrop is complete in January ‘23. Once that happens, we may have a more accurate picture.

Nansen’s Blue Chip-10 Index

Given their dominance in volume and attention, it makes sense to watch Blue Chip floors for signs of what’s to come in the broader market. After the collapse of Luna in June, they were the first to fall and the first to recover - we may see something similar soon, as many seem to already be past their local lows.

I feel straight foolish writing about NFTs right now and was considering pushing this back to next week when things have, hopefully, cooled off a bit. But I’ve been away for a few weeks even before the FTX saga started and thought that maybe some would find refuge in a bit of normalcy. Plus it was already written, albeit not exactly my highest quality work. But its a Friday night and anyone sitting in front of their screens right now probably doesn’t care about jpegs too much at the moment, so we publish anyway.

This week has been absolute hell for many and the hits seem to keep coming. I hope all of you are doing as well as possible. I won’t ramble on too long here (because I believe we’ll be writing an article talking about everything pretty soon), but appreciate you all more than I can say. P1 should hopefully be returning to a more normal schedule in the next week or so - we aren’t going anywhere.

Art Blocks Curated collections climb across the board

While there have been few winners in recent weeks, a number of Art Blocks Curated collections have continued to climb as collectors look for assets with more plausible long-term value. As of writing, three AB collections are in the weekly top volume charts on Flip.xyz - Chromie Squiggles, Memories of Qilin and Friendship Bracelets (more on those below). It’s difficult to imagine many collections seeing bullish action any time soon, but Art Blocks often seems to be immune to greater trends.

Azuki announces clothing collaboration with Ambush

Fresh off the Golden Skateboard auction, Azuki has introduced their first (rather) accessible PBT-integrated items. Their collaboration with fashion brand AMBUSH includes a PBT-enabled hoodie in white or black for 0.55Ξ and gold and silver dragon pendants for 0.35Ξ. Anyone could enter the raffle for a chance to purchase the limited-supply merch, with Azuki holders receiving priority over the general public. Given the ever-ongoing debate surrounding royalties, alternative revenue methods are more and more important and Azuki is certainly ahead of the pack.

DigiDaigaku announces partnerships ahead of Villains mint

After airdropping Dark Spirits and Heroes to holders at the end of October, LimitBreak CEO Gabriel Lleydon announced their upcoming Villains collection will include 10,000 new tokens, 6,000 of which will be given out to individuals and groups outside the Digi ecosystem. They’ve also announced partnerships with more NFT projects, including My Pet Hooligan and EtherOrcs, who will receive Digi avatars that are usable in EtherOrcs dungeons. Love him or hate him, Gabe has had his foot on the gas for months now and shows no sign of stopping. Look out for more opportunities to get on the Villains whitelist on his Twitter.

RENGA teases their next chapter

After capturing the spotlight in October and running as high as 3Ξ, RENGA has started prepping holders for what comes next. A picture tweeted on November 7th shows a whirling ball of color underneath a single word, “Origin.” The project from artist DirtyRobot is notoriously tight-lipped, announcing news once it is already finished and live (such as the surprise airdrop to TAOS holders in June). They have been rather quiet since revealing in September, but it may be time to pay attention again soon.

Tales of Elleria gains attention as $ELM hits all-time high

Tales of Elleria is a role-playing GameFi project that may look a bit familiar to those who played DefiKingdoms last year. Heroes can be sent on quests or given assignments to earn rewards in the form of $ELM, their native token, and other in-game assets. Despite opening their mint in March, they didn’t sell out for over six months. The project saw an influx of volume starting around November 4th, with their $ELM token peaking at over $6 on the 6th. y00ts are finally here and so are their subDAOs

On November 4th, holders could finally open their t00bs and reveal their y00ts. The collection of colorful, furry avatars contains cultural references like Noun glasses but brings many new and creative traits to the table, such as the Gold Shoey Guzzler and a variety of color-block glasses inspired by famous artworks. Notably, the collection uses a very balanced trait distribution, leaving the market to determine which traits are most sought after. Since reveal, a multitude of trait-based subDAO have already spun up operations, including n00unsDAO, Orange Club, HoodieDAO and many more.

After the FTX saga began on the 8th, Frank openly questioned bridging the Dust Labs collections to Ethereum. He deleted the tweet shortly after but continued to address the possibility and was incredibly open about it, including the community in many of the discussions. For now, it appears they will be staying put on Solana. While many were angered by so much as the idea, Frank simply wants to do what’s best for his holders, which I admire personally. Stay strong solbros.

Recent Launches:

Art Gobblers rise, then fall amidst controversy

After minting on Halloween, Art Gobblers saw sales around 12Ξ out of the gate. Trading volume quickly surpassed 10,000Ξ as Gobblers rose to a peak above 20Ξ in the week that followed. Their fall came just as quickly as their rise, though, as Twitter was aflame with controversy surrounding the project for days - something that now seems like a distant memory.

Observers took issue with their seemingly influencer-focused distribution method, the strange and suggestive artwork and dug up some of Justin Roiland’s previous works filled with offensive and inappropriate themes. While the project is far from over - it could take over 10 years to mint all 10,000 Gobblers - it might feel like it to some given the tremendous drop in floor price and its failure (so far) to permeate NFT culture, something which was essential to its “flywheel” of artists creating art for Gobblers to gobble. Where they go from here is anyone’s guess.

Friendship Bracelets are a free claim for Art Blocks holders

Created by Alexis André in collaboration with Art Blocks founder Erick Calderon (a.k.a. Snowfro), Friendship Bracelets are an open edition claimable by anyone who held an Art Blocks token on 10/26/22. It is a token of appreciation for Art Blocks supporters and is the first collection in the new Art Blocks Exploration series. The collection saw over 2,500Ξ in volume in the past week and reached a floor of ~0.35Ξ on the 7th. Eligible wallets can mint two Friendship Bracelets any time before the claim window closes on 1/10/23. Read more details about the project here.

KPR sees +2,000Ξ of volume on reveal day

Despite revealing yesterday in the midst of one of the worst weeks in the history of crypto, KPR has done quite well. The collection has received praise from a number of notable collectors for its refreshing art style and overall quality from top to bottom. Only Bored Apes sit ahead of KPRs on weekly volume charts, with over 2,000Ξ in volume coming after the reveal yesterday. While we don’t yet know what to expect next, it was refreshing to see a project deliver such quality while there is so much to be negative about in the market.

The LP is an experiment in bootstrapping NFT liquidity

Many are in search of a solution to the royalties debate and The LP has proposed an experimental one. The project has created “a new model to empower NFT creators” while solving NFT liquidity issues. Using their CC0 contracts, creators can set up a mint that holds funds in trustless escrow, provides instant liquidity by withholding 1,000 tokens for liquidity pools and paying fees to token holders and creators. They are currently running a Dutch auction will reach a lower limit of 0.0111Ξ on the 17th. While it’s unclear whether the project will sell out, this is exactly the type of experimentation and innovation needed to find new revenue streams for creators.

Pirate Nation is an RPG from former Zynga designers

Pirate Nation will see players sending their Pirates on quests, obtaining new items and XP and building their own personalized islands. The game is being developed by Proof of Play, a blockchain gaming company with a team that hails from a variety of industry including game design, social media and fintech. CEO Amitt Mahajan has a lengthy resume that includes co-founding Farmville during his time at Zynga. Their game, which will be on Polygon, will have a playable beta within the next few weeks.

The Beacon prepares to launch Settlements on the 25th

The social roguelite RPG will launch an early version of their Settlements on November 25th. During this time, players can earn some NFTs, become a founding member by purchasing a Founder’s Pack and test the single-player PVE mode. The Beacon will be launching on Arbitrum and partnering with TreasureDAO, who talked to the team about various aspects on the game including homestead customization, the tavern dialog system and how they structure dungeon drops - read their thread here. Their distribution method and timeline is a bit unconventional, so if you are interested in the game, I’d recommend diving into their docs and joining the Discord for more info. Broadside brings CC0 collections together on November 15

A CC0 collection with traits contributed and inspired by projects including Rekt Guy, Cryptoadz, Moonbirds and more, Broadside is a decentralized story that puts your character at the center. After minting their avatar collection, holders will receive 11 episodic NFTs telling the story of their specific character, which can then be merged into a 1/1 book. The collection mints on OpenSea on November 15th and those who claimed their open edition Foreword last week will have priority.

Memeland announces more details as Piratez mint nears

After announcing the collection what seems like forever ago, 9GAGCEO and the Memeland team have begun releasing more details around the mint for their main collection, Piratez. Potatoz holders can mint one Pirate for each of their Potatoz, detailed in this tweet. They have also been sharing teasers for the full reveal of Potatoz, which have gone through various stages of growth since minting in July. Look out for more info, as it seems Memeland may be coming soon.

NFT Market Overview:

A lot has happened since I last posted a few weeks ago - Blur has become a dominant force and a real competitor for OpenSea’s marketshare, royalty debates have raged on and listing incentives on various marketplaces have shifted market dynamics a bit. Yet it doesn’t particularly feel like the time to dive into all of it given the week’s events. Certainly some discounts out there if you’re crazy enough to take them, but who knows if they’ll look like discounts by next week. Stay safe.

Azuki introduces the BEAN Chip and PBT standard

On Monday, Azuki announced the BEAN chip and a new Ethereum standard, the Physical Backed Token, which together tie a physical object to a digital token, introducing what they call “scan-to-own” mechanics. PBTs enable creators to link digital and physical objects in a decentralized, trustless fashion. Azuki will release their first PBTs, a collection of eight 24K Golden Skateboards, on Friday the 23rd in an auction - read the full details here. Azuki also launched Collector Profiles last Friday, where holders can display their NFTs, earn badges and participate in new drops.

Blur announces public launch and airdrop details

After announcing their $11M seed round led by Paradigm in March, Blur has slowly rolled out beta access to traders and communities across the space. Today they announced their public launch, welcoming everyone to use what they call “the NFT marketplace for pro traders.” They are living up to the slogan so far. Their site aggregates OpenSea, LooksRare and X2Y2 listings and now allows traders to list items directly on Blur.

To incentivize users to give their site a try, Blur is offering care packages to anyone who has traded NFTs in the past six months. These care packages contain $BLUR, their upcoming native token, and “other supplies.” $BLUR will launch in January and users who list tokens on the site will receive more care packages based on their activity. The size of Airdrop 2 will also be determined by how much a user pays in royalties - pay more royalties, receive a larger airdrop. Castaways release Islands and in-game updates

The P2O island survival game with backing from LimitBreak’s Gabriel Leydon minted their second collection earlier this week. Each Raft holder received an Island, while 350 went to the public and 50 were kept for their treasury. The Islands update, which released alongside the mint, allows holders to begin constructing their homes with Minecraft-esque blocks and materials. Those without a raft or island can still play the game here.

Genuine Undead gains attention on run to all-time highs

The collection of 24x24 pixel zombies saw continued volume over the past two weeks, finding new all-time highs frequently and peaking at a floor of nearly 1Ξ. GU has a strong community on social media and is often praised for its detailed pixel art. The run seemingly came without much of a catalyst, though it did earn GU a spot on the cover of the latest Redlion Magazine (and inspired a few derivative projects).

Non-Fungible Films makes offer to acquire 0N1 Force

NFF Founder Cameron Moulène tweeted that the entertainment studio has been in talks with 0N1 Force regarding an acquisition for “a few months.” The cyber-anime collection generated loads of hype when it minted last fall but has failed to regain the spotlight in a competitive category. Moulène emphasized his affinity for 0N1, saying it would become their premier IP. While the deal has not closed, NFF have made a formal offer to acquire the collection and await a decision from the 0N1 Force team.

The Art Pass provides access to Iconic Moments pieces

Iconic Moments works with top museums and brands around the world to create digital assets with meaning and purpose. They helped Linda Dounia in creating Grail #5 from PROOF’s Grails II drop and debuted their first collection, The Art Pass, earlier this week. The pass grants holders priority access to future drops from Iconic. The company offers assistance to museums, brands and other organizations looking to get involved in NFTs and have already started teasing their first art drop.

The Eternals makes Anthony Hopkins into a pfp collection

They’ve run out of things to make avatar collections from and now here we are. The Eternals consists of 1,000 faces of actor and entertainer Sir Anthony Hopkins, each themed around one of ten archetypes. The collection was developed by Orange Comet, an entertainment company who also developed The Walking Dead NFT collection. Each Anthony Hopkins will reveal on Thursday, October 20.

Nyolings create cute characters with claymation style

Combining the personability of human avatars with an attractive aesthetic, Nyolings feel unique yet relatable. The team doesn’t have a roadmap full of flashy promises - like many, they only seek to create a community that can work together to build their brand. The collection found itself in the top 10 for daily volume throughout the week, generating over 1,250Ξ in secondary volume so far.

Non-fungible fantasy sports have come to the NBA. SoRare NBA takes digital sports cards to the next level by encouraging players to compete in weekly fantasy tournaments using the cards they own. Players are rewarded with new cards based on how they fair in each competition. Cards have five different rarity tiers (and a supply cap), allowing players to enter higher-tier tournament as they collect better cards. New players can be purchased in auctions or from other managers - sorry, no packs. Anyone can claim a free starter lineup right now and the first competition starts on the 21st. SoRare launched their fantasy football/soccer game in 2019 and added MLB games in early 2022. They have since built a healthy and competitive ecosystem that saw over $20M of volume in the past 30 days. Fans of the NBA should certainly give it a try.

Splat by Devotion puts tomato soup on your NFT

Inspired by the protestors who threw tomato soup at Van Gogh’s Sunflowers last week, Andrew Wang, Sighduck and their team at Devotion brought the soup on-chain. Splat pulls the corresponding image from any token and covers it in tomato soup. There isn’t too much to it, but holders had fun with it on Twitter and praised Devotion for helping people learn how to use Etherscan to call contract functions. The collection reached a high of ~0.7Ξ after minting later Monday night.

Garbage Friends make trash into digital collectibles

Markus Magnusson, the artist behind Invisible Friends, is poised to return with more tangible characters. Garbage Friends, the second collection from the animator, employs the same walking animation style as IF, bringing gross piles of trash to life with vibrant colors and meticulous detail. We have few details about the project so far - the mint date, price and supply are yet to be announced and it’s unclear whether or not it will fall under the umbrella of the Random Character Collective. One to keep on the radar.

Tengoku is building an ambitious world in Unreal Engine 5

While the Tengoku ID minters receive this week will look like a standard anime avatar, the project has plans to bring each one to life in an expansive universe built with Unreal Engine 5. The collection, which follows a sci-fi story in the year 2140, is made up of six different professions, each with their own specialized skills. Each ID entitles holders to a free Tengoku 3D, a life-like virtual human NFT for use in-game. Holders will also receive $TENG, their governance token, although details around it are scarce.

NFT Market Overview:

Royalties dominated weekend conversations again as Magic Eden announced it would be moving to an optional royalty model. They’ve also launched a $1M Hackathon to develop pro-royalty and alternative monetization solutions. As their new system currently stands, buyers decide whether or not to pay the project’s royalty, as opposed to X2Y2’s model where sellers decide.

Blur’s public launch adds intrigue to both the royalty conversation and the landscape of Ethereum marketplaces overall. They’ve launched their own marketplace, allowing users to list directly on Blur, where the seller can decide whether or not to pay royalties. Traders who pay more royalties will receive more $BLUR in their upcoming airdrop, creating a third-party incentive for traders to pay creators. Listing NFTs on Blur also impacts the airdrop amount, creating further incentives for the marketplace.

How will their public launch impact the charts below? After a year, X2Y2 now demands about 50% of NFT volume, although their transaction share still lags OpenSea’s substantially. Blur pairs the fastest indexing publicly available with the ability to choose royalties and access to liquidity on other marketplaces. Slap some airdrop incentives on top and you’ve got a recipe to make these charts look a lot different by the end of the year.

BAYC founders Yuga Labs subject of new SEC probe

On Tuesday, Bloomberg reported the SEC is investigating “whether certain [Yuga] NFTs… are more akin to stocks,” as well as whether the distribution of ApeCoin violated federal laws. The investigation remains in early stages and no legal action has yet been taken against Yuga Labs. Regardless, the news sent the NFT space at large into a flurry. BAYC and MAYC topped daily volume charts, with the large majority of sales coming as accepted offers. While we may not hear more details about the SEC investigation for some time, it is now undoubtable that NFTs are on regulator radars.

Clone X teases companion collection Project Animus

It’s shaping up to be a busy end of 2022 for RTFKT. The Clone X creators shared a short trailer for Project Animus last Friday that shows a Clone walking into the incubation chamber with two alien-like companions. All we know for now is that Clones will receive an Egg sometime in November which will then hatch in early 2023. The trailer caused a rapid spike in volume, placing Clone X second in the weekly charts. They’ve certainly got more in store as well - the MNLTH 2 quest should be kicking off over the next couple weeks and holders can stay entertained until then by speculating about the newly-announced collaboration with luxury luggage company RIMOWA.

CyberBrokers announce first formal roadmap

In the time since mint, the world-building collection from veteran cryptoartist Josie Bellini has held interactive quests, rewarded participants with swappable cosmetics and built a newsletter. Today they released their first formal roadmap which will focus mostly on more of the same. New collectibles, more in-game resources, an upgraded quests website and burn-to-reveal Mechs are amongst the highlights. The announcement led to some increased volume in the collection on Thursday.

DigiDaigaku bolsters marketing efforts with Super Bowl ad

LimitBreak founder Gabriel Leydon had been teasing a marketing announcement for days and announced the Super Bowl ad spot on Thursday morning. Leydon ran SB ads for his previous games with MachineZone and believes the strategy will be effective, telling VentureBeat that no one “has done something quite like we are planning” in an SB commercial. The Digi team has no intention of slowing down, saying the next airdrop will be detailed tomorrow alongside the Heroes reveal.

Dust Labs sets royalties to 0% on DeGods and y00ts

The conversation around royalties has been ongoing for the past few months but Dust Labs is one of (if not the) first to voluntarily remove royalties from their collections. In their announcement last week, the DeGods and y00ts creators said this is “the best decision for their business at this time,” implying they already have plans to supplement the income formerly provided by royalties. Elsewhere, some expressed disappointment on Twitter after the Dust Labs daily updates revealed they are still reworking the y00ts artwork more than a month after minting.

BeVee brings Ramdaram’s signature style to avatar form

South Korean animator Ramdaram has created an instantly recognizable aesthetic by combining her animations with music, often garnering millions of views on Youtube. Her Feel Good music video serves as inspiration for this CC0 collection, which promises little besides the opportunity for fans to own a piece of her work. While an exact reveal date has not been announced, the project tweeted that it will be “very soon.”

Flameys establish Tribo Games’ core community

With a team comprised of veterans from the mobile gaming industry and $1.2M of funding from investors including Play Ventures, Tribo Games is joining the push to create games that better serve their players. Team members have previously worked on Angry Birds, Candy Crush and Plants vs. Zombies, among others. While they’ve yet to share details regarding what their first game will be, the free-to-mint Flameys collection serves to establish their core community. Owning a Flamey provides holders with perks including early access to games & other to-be-announced benefits.

Street Machine will tell a sprawling story in graphic novels

After some hiccups during their mint, Street Machine was one of the only new projects to see substantial volume over the past week. The avatar collection inspired by sci-fi, cyberpunk and anime pop culture will expand into a world of characters through online graphic novels while giving holders a voice in how the story unfolds. The team is working on transitioning their smart contract to allow tokens to be manually revealed after holding a Twitter poll asking if holders would prefer this. Their estimated reveal date is now sometime next week.

Yu-Gi-Yn brings Tokyo culture to a multi-faceted metaverse

A collaboration between Yu-Gi Labs and Tokyo-based project developer TNZ NFT DAO, Yu-Gi-Yn entered the ever-competitive anime arena on Wednesday with some uh, interesting art. The two groups note the prevalence of western-founded NFT projects focused on Japanese culture and believe their native presence in Japan can be an asset when working with web3 projects and web 2 companies alike. The 3D avatar project is building a native metaverse where users can play various games, browse the shopping district or attend events in the clubbing area.

Art Gobblers announce October 31st mint date

The innovative project from Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland and Paradigm announced their mint will be held on October 31st. While many are excited to see Roiland’s signature style in generative form, the collection’s main draw is within its smart contracts. Gobblers will employ variable rate gradual Dutch auctions, VRGDAs, to emit $GOO on a schedule built with longevity in mind - read more details on the technical mechanics here and read our previous preview from a few weeks ago here. So far, the only way for the public to get a spot on the mintlist is through their meme contest, so get to memeing.

The Beacon brings roguelite RPGs to the blockchain

A fantasy roguelite RPG crafted for browser play, The Beacon seeks to satisfy players of all kinds with its free-to-play structure. Anyone can sign up, receive a standard character and settlement and crawl through dungeons, slaying monsters to increase their skills and earn cosmetic rewards. Their initial collection, though, will feature 4,096 Blessed characters, each of whom will receive a pet that boosts their in-game rewards. An uncapped supply of paid characters will also be available, allowing players to further customize their characters.

Settlements will be the first portion of the project to launch, followed by the pets mint sometime in Q4. An alpha version of the game should be released sometime in the beginning on 2023, while the full game is planned for release later in 2023.

Valhalla holds pre-sale to test market before main release

The gaming-streetwear project from parent company Stacked opened a limited presale on Wednesday. 500 tokens will be distributed to selected buyers for 0.25Ξ each. These 500 tokens will be subject to a 3-month locking period during which they cannot be transferred. The purpose of the presale, as CEO Alex Lin explained on Twitter, is to measure demand for the project before the full sale while rewarding devoted community members for their conviction.

Over 5,500 bids have already been placed in the presale, which ends on Sunday. While Valhalla has not yet set a mint date, the presale is a good sign that it could come soon. Read our previous coverage of the project here.

NFT Market Overview:

Very little has changed about the overall NFT market in the past month. Volume and users remain relatively consistent, telling us it may largely be the same degenerates passing chips around the table. While new projects are still finding success occasionally, many seem to fizzle out quickly. A number of larger projects like Art Gobblers, Memeland, and Valhalla remain on the horizon, providing some hope that their debuts could bring a wave of volume back to the market. Still, shaky macro conditions force traders to tread lightly.

Berachain collections bought up as traders anticipate news

In August of last year, 100 Bong Bears graced the blockchain, planting the seed for what has become one of the more anticipated new protocols of late 2022 - Berachain. Bong Bears have since rebased five times, creating five new bear collections, each a bit bigger than the previous. The Bera team has been working on their new Cosmos based, EVM-compatible L1 for some months now, although no official dates have been announced. Trading volume in the Bera ecosystem has picked up substantially in the last week as traders anticipate a sixth rebase - or potentially more information about Berachain.

Cool Cats strengthen partnership with Animoca Brands

Crypto-gaming behemoth Animoca Brands has added another name to its portfolio, which now includes nearly 350 investments including Axie Infinity, NBA Top Shot and OpenSea. The strategic investment, announced on Wednesday, gives Cool Cats access to resources that could certainly assist their burgeoning gaming ecosystem. Other recent activities from the blue cats include physical comic claims and Halloween merch.

Critter Cult tops Solana volume charts in second week

Pixel artist RGB has a lengthy portfolio of immaculately detailed landscapes and created a collection of sunsets earlier this year. Critters Cult, his first avatar collection, fills his artistic universe with quirky characters of all kinds and a narrative inspired by spooky novels, conspiracy theories and 80’s aesthetics. The collection feels familiar yet fresh and creates visual diversity by pulling traits from five different “Realms” that will each play into the narrative. Total volume traded since minting two weeks ago sits around ~165,000◎, spurred forward as influencers and community members - including the Solana founders (and me) - switch to Critter PFPs.

Clone X engages “Story Mode” with new teasers

Although the MNLTH 2 quest has been delayed to an unspecified date, the Clones are still dropping mysterious video hints. The first, seen above, engages “Clone X Story Mode” before displaying three words - Incubation, The Wandersmith, and Exodus. The next two videos show a research facility labeled Incubation and an egg that is presumably from said research facility. Per usual, no one has much of an idea of what is to come. In other news, Nike filed an extensive patent centered around composable NFTs such as the CryptoKick and Skin Vial - read a thread breaking it down here.

DigiDaigaku holders receive Castaways airdrop

DigiDaigaku genesis holders received a Digi x Castaways Adventure Key airdrop on Thursday night. The Adventure Key will allow holders to play Castaways, the upcoming island survival game, as their specific DigiDaigaku avatar. Alongside the airdrop, founder Gabriel Leydon said we will soon see a “MAJOR marketing announcement,” the Hero reveal, and another airdrop from genesis Digis and Heroes.

Gangster All-Star rises as boxes reveal rarity

After minting over a month ago, GAS has welcomed holders to reveal which gang their token belongs to by opening their boxes, revealing a piece of equipment associated with one of the 50 gangs. Holders can choose whether or not to reveal their box and, as in many cases, those that remain unrevealed are selling for a healthy premium (currently ~0.25Ξ more). While they’ve not yet announced a specific date for the art reveal, it could come as soon as next week.

VeeFriends launches toy line with Macy’s & Toys R Us

Six VeeFriends characters are featured in the limited series of plush toys and figurines. The collection is available for pre-order now and will officially launch on October 17th. There is also a “blind box” which includes characters not available for individual purchase. VeeFriends holders who own a character featured in the set can claim one toy for free before October 18th. Bowie on the Blockchain sees artists pay homage to Bowie

Nine cryptoartists including Defaced, Fewocious and Pussy Riot created pieces honoring the late David Bowie, whose estate partnered with OpenSea to organize the sale. The supply and price of each piece varied, but the most notable sale was certainly Fewocious’ animated Bowie, which sold for 96Ξ and comes with a six-foot statue.

HELIX is building a digital copy of New York City

Hyper Expansive Lifelike Interoperable eXperience (HELIX) has incredibly ambitious plans. The metaverse project places players in Parallel City, a “meticulously detailed 1:1 scale recreation of NYC” complete with “cutting-edge graphics, diverse game modes… and true digital ownership.” The company behind the project raised a $3.5M seed round led by Play Ventures in September. Holding a Founder’s Pass grants exclusive airdrops of in-game items, early access to the game and other benefits to be announced. Read more details in their docs here.

The Hopeful by Azra Games brings more mobile devs to F2O

Continuing the free-to-own meta, The Hopeful by Azra Games is another VC-funded F2O game from a team of former mobile game developers. Azra CEO Mark Otero was previously a General Manager at EA, where he worked on Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, a free-to-play mobile game that grossed over $1.5B of revenue. Azra received funding from a16z and Coinbase Ventures, among others. Each Hopeful acts as a “play forever pass” for Legions & Legends, their keynote game, which will be detailed this winter.

Kitaro World was a rare post-reveal success

After minting on the 26th, this collection of anime-inspired cat-creatures settled in a range between 0.02Ξ and 0.04Ξ and remained there until its reveal on the 30th. Their roadmap includes an AR coloring book that will feature Kitaros from the collection, plushies, merch and other storytelling elements. But even its biggest fans likely did not expect to the collection rise to a peak of ~0.6Ξ within the next three days. While it has since descended, it was encouraging to see a bullish reveal, which has become increasingly uncommon in recent months.

Lineagee Naming Registrar rediscovered after 7 years

While combing through the first contracts created on Ethereum, Mason Keresty discovered a name registrar that was deployed on August 8, 2015, only about a week after Ethereum was launched. The historical NFT community was quick to embrace the project, which predates any other NFT on Ethereum, despite the fact that only 60 domain names were minted in 2015. Amongst the commotion, LNR tokens were briefly quite valuable, with some paying up to 3Ξ for three-digit names. Read more about LNR in this NFTnow article.

Probably A Label sees Warner Records start a web3 label

The collaboration between Warner Records and Jeremy Fall’s Probably Nothing is potentially the first web3 music label - and certainly the first with backing from a major label like Warner. PAL aims to use crypto innovations to create new opportunities in IP ownership and community participation. They’ve announced the first drop for holders - a song from Diddy and Jason Martin (aka Problem).

A fully gamified play-and-earn project, Degenheim is welcoming its first community members with a genesis auction of 250 well-rewarded NFTs. Their team of experienced crypto developers and game designers want to create a game with AAA levels of entertainment where nearly everything is an NFT. With a rolling roadmap and a full collection coming at a yet-to-be announced date, Degenheim will be one to keep on the radar. The Degenesis auction ends on Saturday.

KPR reimagines avatar projects - and protects a few secrets

Azuki invites you to explore the Ruins

The overly-anticipated September 23rd announcement revealed the second section of Azuki’s World, the Ruins. While speculative traders were certainly disappointed it wasn’t a fundraising announcement, that may be coming soon. The Block reported that Azuki parent company Chiru Labs is closing in on a $30M raise, although details haven’t been finalized yet. If the calendar in the Alley is to be believed, we can expect more Azuki news on October 14th. And who knows, the Ruins may hold a few secrets that are yet to be discovered.

Bored & Dangerous book released with custom reader

The community-written novel from Jenkins the Valet and the team at Tally Labs went live on Tuesday - holders can read it here. The story was written by best-selling author Neil Strauss and includes dozens of Bored Apes, each licensed by their owner. The book’s release turns the team’s full attention to the launch of Azurbala, the next chapter in their story. B&D holders will need to decide whether to burn their book for an Azur Root, which is then exchanged for an Azurian avatar. DigiDaigaku Quests burn Spirits for Heroes

The free-to-own collection opened Quests last week, allowing holders to exchange their Spirits for Heroes after 24 hours. Hero quality is measures by their bloodline, which is determined based on which Digis are used in the Quest. The project implored holders to maintain Royal bloodlines on Twitter, as it will impact future airdrops and quests. According to this Dune dashboard, it appears most are doing so - 96% of heroes generated so far are Royal. Given they are already teasing the next airdrop, expect to hear more from Gabe and the Digi crew sometime soon(ish).

Pixel Vault teases MetaHero game in new trailer

Pixel Vault provided one of the first previews of the crown jewel in their ever-expanding ecosystem - the MetaHero game. While the short trailer doesn’t show much in the way of actual footage, we do now know that the game will be a 3v3 auto-battler. Pixel Vault also recently released an independent marketplace which now houses all their collections including Punks Comics, MetaHeroes and Founder’s DAO tokens.

Reddit Avatars see adoption - and sales as high as 6Ξ

When Reddit first announced they would be creating their own NFT avatars back in July, no one really knew what to expect. They’ve since released a number of different collections, each with a limited supply of different themed avatars - see them all on RedditAvatars, a community-run site that tracks each collection. Things have really picked up over the past week, though, with some avatars selling for as high as 6Ξ with sales above 1Ξ seen fairly consistently. This post summarizes ATH sales for each collection. Reddit avatars are certainly something to keep an eye on, from both a trading and cultural perspective.

Exosama expands a composable multichain ecosystem

Exosama is the first extension of the Moonsama ecosystem native to Ethereum. Moonsama is one of the leading NFT projects on Polkadot and act as governance tokens for Raresama, one of the leading marketplaces on Polkadot. Their ecosystem spans EVM-compatible chains using a “multiverse bridge,” allowing users to move their NFTs back and forth between chains. Fortunata World Pass picks up the Free-to-Own torch

Led by a team of professional game masters, Fortunata World Pass seeks to bring Dungeons & Dragons to the masses in a Free-to-Own structure. Taking place in the still-forming world of Fortunata, the game is designed to be extremely accessible to new and experienced players alike. While the project is still in its early stages, the first quests in their expansive D&D mod are already playable. We don’t know exactly how the Free-to-Own elements will work, but more information on that may be coming soon.

Royal Fools employ goblintown tactics with medieval style

Free mint, ugly-but-good art, strange storytelling through Twitter, no Discord. We’ve seen this strategy a few times. Royal Fools is the latest collection to put its own spin on the tactics that made goblintown a runaway success. According to project advisor Ozark, the team has been working on the project for a few months and have prepared a colorful lore that they hope can gather some attention. Details are scarce, but there’s enough effort here to keep an eye on it.

Co-founded by actor and Robot Chicken creator Seth Green, The B-Bots give the community control of their IP alongside the tools to use it. Their universe is based around 80s scientist Dyson Lawson and the five Alpha Bots he created. Creators who wish to build in the ecosystem can apply for grants from Globitron, the company behind the project, to build around the Alpha Bots, or can use generative B-Bots, which are all CC0. New Here avatars help fund a premier web3 documentary

With an extensive cast of community members involved, New Here is creating a storytelling documentary to encapsulate the oral history of cryptoart. The film, directed by Dan Sickles, is currently in production and includes over 90 interviews with cryptoartists and builders from across the world. The proceeds from the sale directly support production of the film and each token provides access to exclusive drops and events. New Here opens for public minting today at 1PM EST.

QQL auction begins today at 1PM EST

The 999-piece collection will be sold in a lowest-price Dutch auction that starts at 50Ξ and decreases at a variable rate over one hour until all pieces are sold or the resting price of 2Ξ is reached. Minters will receive a mint pass which can be used to mint a QQL of their own. Hobbs also announced that QQL minters will receive 2% of the royalties from secondary sales on pieces they create. Hobbs and Wist held a QQL creation contest for a few mint passes over the past week - check out the winning designs here.

Survive the NFT Winter forces holders to huddle together

My friend and fellow The Oner Knicksfan930 has a weird obsession with Emperor Penguins and a less-weird obsession with NFTs. Over the past few months, he has worked on combining the two - Survive the NFT Winter is the result. Each penguin begins as a cold, lonely loser, but are given the opportunity to create or join a huddle. Doing so will cause each penguin to change, slowly shifting its visual appearance based on the size of the huddle and length of stay. While we may break the streak of five consecutive weeks of lower OpenSea volume this week, things are just as meh as they’ve been for months. A stray pump here, a good project there, more volatility in a range for most blue-chips. The fact the whole world feels like it might explode soon doesn’t really help get new people interested in blockchain jpegs, either. Despite this, it’s encouraging to see a number of projects from legitimate players still choosing to make an entrance at this time. We’ll see what the next few weeks bring - there are a few higher-profile mints coming, but crypto as a whole could fall off another cliff by then.

Azuki announcement could come later this week

The Alley on Azuki’s website is full of details ripe for speculation, but none more so than the calendar on the left side of the page. In the image above, taken while visiting the desktop site, October 14th is marked on the calendar. When viewed on mobile devices, though, September 23rd is marked. Traders have certainly noticed the easter egg, as the collection has climbed from ~7Ξ to 11Ξ over the past week. Evidently we may see what they’ve got in store come Friday.

Kanpai Pandas sell out as Ice Bagz announces snapshot

After nearly 5 months, the multi-chain collection minted out on the 19th. While the majority of tokens were minted months ago, a few thousands were still available across other chains. Panda chief Ice Bagz announced there will be a snapshot on the 28th. The slow mint hadn’t stopped the Pandas from partying in the past few months, though, as holders have had the opportunity to win tickets to a variety of events including UFC fights, concerts and football games in Las Vegas.

RENGA tops weekly volume charts after lackluster start

The avatar collection from Dirty Robot and team fell after revealing at the start of the month but received plenty of attention this week. Revealed characters saw ~4,500Ξ in volume while Black Boxes, which briefly reached 3Ξ, traded for over 1,500Ξ this week. ~7,300 Black Boxes have been opened, leaving ~25% of the supply still unrevealed.

The Stoics by Gabe Weis rise after reveal

A digital and mixed-media artist from the San Francisco Bay area, Gabe Weiss has been creating NFT art since early 2021. His pieces blend cubism and collage with stream of consciousness style in bold portraits. The Stoics, which revealed Tuesday afternoon, capture his style in generative form. Interestingly, Gabe chose to reveal the art before revealing the traits, encouraging buyers to forgo rarities in exchange for seeking pieces they actually like (crazy stuff). Traits will reveal today at 10AM EST.

Anomura launches their strategy RPG with Mystery Bowls

First announced in April 2022 and backed by Atari and Zed Run developers Virtually Human Studio, Anomura is a P2E strategy RPG that aims to provide players with a fun experience while helping them learn about blockchain and crypto. Each Mystery Bowl contains one Anomura, a crab-like sea creature that will be in-game playable characters. Revealing today, each Anomura is randomly generated on-chain from traits that combine to create over a billion possibilities. Details about the game are still scarce, but that didn’t stop them from rising to a floor of nearly 1Ξ after minting out last week.

Hedz is the second collection from Pepe creator Matt Furie

Hedz features 1,000 hand-drawn 1/1s avatars in Furie’s traditional cartoonish style. The collection, which is currently viewable in full on the website, includes animals, monsters, wizards, pop-culture references and everything in between. It comes just over a year after Furie released his first collection of 100 avatars, Pegz, which reached a floor price over 100Ξ last year. Despite falling victim to sybil attacks, the collection has performed well in the days since it began minting. The reveal date has not yet been announced, as Furie and team are still deciding how to distribute about 100 tokens that have not yet been minted.

Kumaleon is a character-based canvas for generative art

Japanese generative artist Okazz began teaching himself both art and coding at age 25. Since then, he’s produced hundreds of generative pieces but none are more recognizable than Kumaleon, a bear that often acts as a canvas for his generative designs. The Kumaleon collection takes this concept to the next level: each piece features his signature bear in a different generative pattern - but not just one pattern. Each token can be disassembled and reassembled to give Kumaleon a new generative pattern of your choosing.

Multibeasts bring inventive licensing abilities to fine art

Twins Simon and Nikolai Haas, who have created contemporary art that hangs in the MET and worked with artists including Harry Styles and Lady Gaga, took on a new challenge by creating their first NFT collection. Minters took a proprietary personality test which is used to determine each token’s traits, making Beasts uniquely personalized. They have partnered with Remaster, a legal infrastructure protocol, to provide holders with the opportunity to license their Multibeasts in an easy-to-use, enforceable manner.

PoSers claim the title of first on-chain NFT post-merge

PoSers, stylized to emphasize their post-merge birth, are pixelated avatars that draw inspiration from a variety of collections, with notable similarities to Doodles and Unemployables. They market themselves as the first on-chain avatar collection created after the Merge, and while this tagline likely helped fuel the significant amount of volume they saw over the weekend, some took issue with it. While the details are a bit pedantic, the team addressed the situation in a Medium article so everyone can decide for themselves.

Nounlets from Tessera make Nouns more accessible

The fractionalization company formerly known as Fractional introduced an inventive solution to make the notoriously-expensive Nouns ecosystem more accessible. Nounlets are created by vaulting a Noun, which is then split into 100 fractions, each representing 1% of the delegation rights. Each Nounlet has unique IDs and metadata - they all share the same head, but traits like body, accessory, background and glasses will vary. While there are plenty of sudDAOs in the Nouns orbit, they can be a lot to keep up with. Nounlets expands accessibility to one of the top NFT projects without these responsibilities. A launch date was not specified in the announcement.

QQL opens their art generator before mint on 9-28

The upcoming generative art project from Fidenza creator Tyler Hobbs and Dandelion Wist launched their website on the 19th, allowing visitors to tinker with generations to their heart’s desire. Over 500,000 pieces of artwork with an astounding amount of variety have been generated since the site went live. Mint passes for QQL will be sold in a lowest-price Dutch auction on Archipelago on September 28th. The auction will start at 50Ξ and fall until it sells out or reaches 2Ξ. Hobbs and Wist are giving away three mint passes to those who generate the most beautiful QQLs - details here.

Valhalla brings eSports culture to crypto

With a team of builders hailing from MIT, Google, and Goldman Sachs (to name a few) and community members like Gen.G CEO Arnold Hur, Valhalla hopes to blend authentic gaming culture with crypto communities in new ways. Stacked Studios, the company behind the collection, has already raised a Series A round that includes gaming CEOs, venture capitalists and streetwear entrepreneurs. Cats launches new website alongside Catcoin converter

Cats has released the Catcoin converter on their new website, allowing holders to sell their Cat back to the DAO in exchange for 21 Catcoins. Catcoin is an ERC1155 token that displays the image of the Cat it was exchanged for. The DAO also passed their first proposal, instituting a daily Cat auction which is payable in either Catcoin or Ethereum, thus creating a system in which Cat IP is continuously returned to the DAO. This auction format required the team to create a new contract that allows users to bid with ERC1155 tokens, a novel concept which could open up a number of possibilities for future use.

Doodles return to Twitter to announce $54M raise

After drawing some criticism for going nearly two months without sending a tweet, Doodles took to Twitter on Tuesday morning to re-announce their $54M raise at a $700M valuation in a funding round led by Alexis Ohanian’s Seven Seven Six. The raise was first disclosed during NFT NYC two months ago, but Tuesday’s official announcement was the first time we heard the numbers. The announcement caused a surge in volume on Doodles, Dooplicators and Genesis Boxes.

Doodles will be hiring 18 new full time employees (including a social media manager). The raise puts the pastel profile pictures into position as one of the most well-financed projects in the space.

Grumpls revealed last Friday in surprise event

The story arc that started when Goblintown holders received a free burgers over three months ago has wrapped up (at least for the time being). After burning their burgers in exchange for grumpls, holders waited weeks until, on Friday, their grumpls revealed by surprise. The collection of pillow-shaped creatures features artwork from eight different artists (all linked in this tweet), providing the project a diverse array of styles while maintaining - to some extent - a continuity of subject. There are also 22 1/1 grumpls in the collection, each created by a different artist or community member - contributors include Andrew Wang, Jake the Degen, OSF and Steve Aoki.

Gutter Cat Gang completes Gutter Juice DNA-2 sale

The Gutter universe continues to grow with the release of the DNA-2 Gutter Juice. DNA-2 Juice is used to upgrade D1 Gutter Clones. Upgrading a Clone requires one DNA-2 and two Gutter Clones, one to upgrade and one to sacrifice, creating downward pressure on the Clone supply. The Clone machine will begin accepting DNA-2 Juice in October. GCG received some criticism for holding a Dutch auction from 0.9Ξ to 0.3Ξ, but the Juice did manage to sell out in about six hours.

Killabears begin their stake at the Kilton Hotel

In an entertaining spin on staking games, Killabears have opened the Kilton Hotel to holders with both a Killabear and Killabit. Those who complete their 30-day stay in the Kilton will be rewarded - although they don’t know how yet. Each day of the staking exhibition sees Killabears encounter a different narrative element, all of which is observable on the Kilton Cam on their website. While we’ve seen projects employ storytelling elements in a multitude of ways, the daily storytelling is rather unique and creates an engaging experiment for holders.

ACK’s color study turns into max pain - literally

The ever-eccentric Alpha Centauri Kid released an open edition of his color study last week, but minters were quickly thrown for a loop when the metadata was changed to display XCOPY’s MAX PAIN, which was released as an open edition earlier this year. While some may have been disappointed, the painful reveal was a great moment to observe - and, of course, ACK has plans. He is working with Manifold to create a burn-to-mint contract where holders can redeem max pain v2 for one of 10 color studies, exchanging their pain for a new color.

Catharsis creates continuity in chaos

The fifth collection from GM Studios, Catharis by Dario Lanza is “the first long-structure and evolutive art project on the blockchain.” In laymen’s terms, this means the generation algorithm changes and evolves as tokens are minted. Earlier tokens are less chaotic with smaller, timid strokes, while later tokens are wilder with strong, aggressive strokes. The “long-structure” comes from the relationship between tokens: strokes from token #968 flow directly into the strokes on token #969 and so on. This repeats in a 50-work structure, meaning token #917 flows directly into #968 or #866, etc. While it may not have seen the same amount of speculation as other GM collections, Catharis is an innovative collection that is built with an incredible flow.

Metropolis World welcomes Passport holders to Celeste

Armed with an extensive list of celebrity partners including Dillon Francis, yung gravy, gmoney, and Bored Elon, Metropolis World hopes to create a unique digital universe that will eventually serve as a gaming and metaverse hub. Their Passports collection, which minted last Thursday, entitles holders to a Genesis avatar and provides entry into a raffle for one of the 400 Genesis properties in Celeste, the first of six cities. Each passport belongs to one of the elemental cities - air, earth, fire, pixel, space or water. Details on the timeline are scarce, but the Genesis properties launch is next on the agenda.

Spells introduces Interactive NFTs to the Loot universe

Spells are, in typical Loot fashion, a simple picture of white text on a black background. Their smart contract, which uses ERC-5050, is the main asset. ERC-5050 enables Spells to interact with each other - in this case by casting Spells on other NFTs to mine $CAST. The project serves as a case study for on-chain interaction between tokens, potentially unlocking a wide range of possibilities for on-chain gaming. Read more about ERC-5050 here.

Tykes unite real estate professional and web3 professionals

Real estate investor, entrepreneur and YouTuber Ryan Pineda launched Tykes with the goal of connecting and educating real estate investors and professionals. The collection of child-like avatars launched a few weeks ago but has gained attention after popping up at the top of daily volume charts last week. Owning a Tyke gives holders benefits like access to exclusive start-up investments and real estate deals. They eventually plan to purchase houses across the world which Tyke holders can access using Tycoin, which will be generated from staking Tykes. Interesting, to say the least.

Art Gobblers is a decentralized art factory by Justin Roiland

Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland has teamed up with the big brains at Paradigm to create what could be one of the most interesting projects of the year. While they have been building background lore for months through various Twitter accounts like Ned Jeffers and have opened access to their Draw Tool, details surrounding exactly how the project works have started to surface just this week, coming mostly from Paradigm researcher Dave White (see above). Here’s my mediocre TLDR:

2,000 Gobblers will be minted for free at the start. Each Gobbler produces $GOO, which will be used to mint the remaining 8,000 Gobblers. Goo is produced at a variable rate determined by how much Goo a Gobbler has accumulated. This means that Goo supply will rise exponentially over time. To make this work, Paradigm created a new kind of smart contract they call the “variable rate gradual Dutch auctions,” or VRGDAs, which effectively raises the Goo cost of each Gobbler minted.

Goo is also used to produce blank pages. Pages are used to draw art. The art is then eaten by the Gobblers, where it lives on-chain in the “belly gallery” forever. Lost Realms channels turn-based RPGs of old

Created by Tribe, a team of game developers hailing from Lucasarts, MachineZone, EA and more, Lost Realms is building an MMORPG that channels the nostalgia of childhood favorites like Pokemon and Chrono Trigger. Each NFT will be a playable in-game hero which will serve as the base character for a player’s team. Competing in battles and completing quests will yield powerful rewards while upgrading the statistics of each NFT. Details are still scarce and there’s no release date yet, but these notes from their first Town Hall have a bit more information.

NFT Market Overview:

As the Ethereum NFT market continues to find a way to print lower weekly volume bars, Solana NFTs have seen an incredible bounce over the past week or so. Undoubtably catalyzed by the y00ts mint, Solana NFT volume more than doubled last week and new mints reached an all-time high. y00ts drew many Ethereum natives to Solana for the first time, while the concurrent success of ABC and increased interest in Solana Name Service domains also contributed to the upward trend.

As I’ve previously talked about here, Ethereum traders have been trading at lower volumes per transaction for a number of months. While some may have seen the Solana NFT ecosystem as a less profitable option during the bull run, this may not be the case much longer. At the end of the day, most traders will follow the volume. If that means going across the Wormhole, that may be a fact ETH maxis have to accept.
